Given an option between the following 2, which one should one opt for ?
1\ Behave humbly, be less respected but more loved by the community
2\ Be more forthright and assertive in your opinions, and thus be more respected but less loved by the people around
Now please don't ask me to secure a balance between those two since that is easier said than done.

Love, and sympathy, need not be necessarily accompanied by respect.
So please do not mix the two.

I'm sorry, but I just don't believe you can have one without the other. A truly humble person commands respect. It does not mean that they are a door mat, just that they know what is important & what is not & do not waste their time, words, or energy on nonproductive pursuits. They are secure in themselves & feel no need to prove they are right, they would rather have peace. But that does not mean they do not rise to the occasion if needed, & when they speak everyone listens because they are known by their character. they know their strenghths & warts & accept both. False humility is totally different. If I love someone in the true sense of the word respect is always present. If it is not then that is not real love either.

I think being humble and to be loved is more important... it would develop a greater sense of belonging which is what matters. Being humble is even otherwise important because it keeps the ego in check.... on the other hand, earning respect has to pay the price of living up to it, apart from boosting the ego which can cause many other issues, especially in relationships. The individual interest too is best served by being subservient to the interests of the society/community.

Respect and love do not stand in opposition to one another. One can have both, either, or none. Additionally, either may be based on attributes and values that aren't necessarily ones you feel deserve respect and love. Hitler was both respected and loved. For this reason I believe it is more important to focus on being the kind of person who you believe deserves respect and/or love. Pay attention to the things you say and do to others. Only act and speak in ways that you believe to be highly respectable. The golden rule is a good starting point.

Not sure that I believe the premise that behaving humbly can't get respect. But of the premise's choices, I would pick #2. It is better to be assertive in your opinions especially in this day. That is the only way to get your opinions heard and maybe believed.

Both are equally important...that's why a balance is easier said than done. Most important is that you respect and love yourself. As long as you're true to you...you can be true to those around you. By respecting and loving yourself more and more...a balance can be the result...not the dilemma.

i think being respected. people in this day and age even the younger generation don't even respect themselves. when you are respected more people not only look up to you but trust you. love can be found all over. i think with much respect a person could get loved even more.

As far as my eyes can see, love is the most essential thing on this world. Once you love someone, its obvious that you also respect that person. But respect can be earned even without being loved. Respect alone is not enough. For example, our teachers teach us & we respect them for that without actually having that love & affection for them, but when it comes to a friend, a friend also teaches us, guides us & we respect them for that along with all the love & affection.

Being loved is most important.
because love has more chemistry than respect..
Respect may fall if the person mistakes even he done great good things in the past..
But love is personal ,love forgives him even he done a great
disaster/worry to someone..
Respect can come to/on everyone but love cannot.
Respect differs with designation .and situation. but Love cannot be measured.
