If they had blocks or if they could bring cement and iron to the south pole, would they use it to build their houses instead of ice?

The south pole has never been inhabited (except by research scientists, and they don't build their houses from ice).

You might be thinking of Eskimos. They live near the NORTH pole. They (sometimes) build their houses from ice because it's an easy-to-find building material. It is also a very good insulator, so it actually is not too cold inside.

Yes, the ice can reach an under-zero temperature. But the important thing (for comfort) is the temperature of the air inside, which is quite a bit warmer than zero (especially after it's been warmed up by body heat).

This might be wrong, but wouldn;t the temperature of Ice remain at 0? I am also assuming that Ice is used to build houses in the south pole to provide shelter/barrier against the windy conditions (the windy conditions are far colder than the ice). Cheers

Most of the bases in Antarctica build out of non-native materials, not ice.

And yes - ice can get colder than the freezing temperature of water. If the air temperature is -50 C, then the ice will be that temperature.
