My campus have a internet connection through the local area network ports at each hostel, so basically we are plugging in the lan cable into the lan port and got the internet connection after logging in..

So, i have a laptop and a desktop, and i want to share the internet connection , so i bought a wireless router, but i have no idea how to set it up, since its not pppoe.. its lan based, so anyone can teach the configuration of the router?

so its basically ISP Router -> main LAN Port - > Wireless router -> Desktop and Laptop (both cannot online)

the emulator of the main page of the router is at here

http://support.dlink.com/emulators/di524/

which mean its the configuration part of the router (http://192.168.0.1//)

thanks

heard theres something to do with DCHP but i have no idea what it means

I did sucessfully done it before but the connection is like splitted into two ports ( which mean have to login from both desktop and laptop, and i only have 1 username )

To Juxpat :

Thanks, I did it and now i manage to split the connection into two, but the another one requires another login ID to use .. any way to use back the same connection as the first one? thanks

I still not quite understand what u mean, do u mean the range of the IP address? Mine only can set Starting IP address : 192.168.0.100 to Ending IP address : 192.168.0.199

As the link shown

Thanks

Thanks for the fast answer, one more question, though, before i log out to try it, my subnet is 255.255.254.0 and not 255.255.255.0 will that give any problem..? ( i check though the ipconfig setting ) anyway, anything else to configure except for the LAN setting..? the WAN?
Thanks

Unlike the above answer, I would tell you to ENABLE the dhcp on your router!. Just be sure it is in a different range than your School issues!. Set your router to get a DHCP address, then log in and check what address it gets and the gateway and subnet.

If you get 192.168.0.x or 10.0.0.x on the WAN then change your router to issue on the LAN a 192.168.2.x or 192.168.10.x etc just use a totally different LOCAL range, that way your router will be all that has to be "loged into" the school system. Your local machines will then use the routers ONE school ip and will be issued a totally different private IP.
You may have to use PPPoe to set your username and password.

ADD
If you CLICK on LAN settings, left side of the screen and change the Address currently 192.168.0.1, to 192.168.1.1 you can indeed change the RANGE being issued. Change the 192.168.0 to something else, if your school is using that same range, and to Colinc, YES you can indeed use routers with other routers on a LAN I do it daily, they do have to "create" a new network and not operate within the same IP address range!

A Router by definition seperates networks, that is what they are designed to do, and they do work within private addresses as well as public. They do have to be on different network segments.
If one is on 192.168.0.1 the other is on 192.168.1.1 and even another on 192.168.2.1 and even another is on 10.0.0.1 then they will all work (that assumes subnets of 255.255.255.0 (you can also change the subnet ranges if you want even more divisions but that is a different disscussion).

Subnet.. your LOCAL subnet should indeed be 255.255.255.0... that will give you 254 possible addresses for you system.
If the schools subnet is 255.255.254.0 then be aware of the ranges they are using. YOUR local subnet is not and should not be the same. Your WAN should probably just be set to DHCP if the that is what the school issues. If the schools "WAN" is 192.168.0.x with a 255.255.254.0 subnet that means the school is using 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.1.255 so stay OUT of that range of IP's. make yours 192.168.10.1 etc.
If your subnet was set to 255.255.254.0 you would have 512 LOCAL addresses available! You really DONT need that.

You just need to disable the DHCP of your DI-524 and let your main router be your DHCP server. if your main router doesn't have a DHCP server. then set a static IP address to both computers. make sure that the DI-524, laptop and desktop are on the same network range.

You can't use 2 routers on the same connection, they conflict. You should have bought a wireless access point or even just a network switch for hardwiring.
