I read about the lunar eclipse on August 28th, and want to understand how come I was unable to see it. I live in Quebec, in the EDT time zone, and NASA's website indicated the lunar eclipse would be visible as of 5:52 a.m. I got up to view it and saw nothing. So I checked another website to see the time of moonset on August 27th, 2007, and it indicated 4:49 a.m. It seems there is a discrepancy between the two sites I consulted. Can someone explain this?

I also live in the EDT zone, but further west, in Ontario. Here The Moon disappeared into horizon haze about 15 minutes after totality began at 05:52. Further east, where you are, the Moon would set earlier, but totality would still start at the same time, so the Moon was probably at or below the horizon when you looked at 5:52. The 4:49 time was probably EST, which works out to 5:49 EDT, so I think that's your problem: the Moon set where you are 3 minutes before totality began. If you had started observing an hour earlier, as I did, you would have had a fine view of the partial phases.

The Earth is round and is divided into 24 time zones. I think you can still see it. So the time is one thing but there are two variables, the time and your position on the Earth. I do not think you can correct for time only.

Go out and look again for an orange ball.
