What is the one invention we could really do without?

IM. Nobody write letters anymore. No one picks up the phone to say hello. In the time it takes most of us to type a response, we could have a wonderful conversation.

There are loads of stupid inventions out there, the ones that spring to mind are the automatic straw sucker - How much of your precious energy is actually saved and is it really that much more convenient?

There was also a student at MIT who invented an internet-ready toaster. It would plug into your LAN, and if a button were pressed before putting in toast, it would connect to weather.com, retrieve the symbol for the day's weather (sunny, partly cloudy, rain, etc.) and burn it into a piece of toast. I don't know if it's stupid, but it's pointless

PETER PETRIE EGG SEPARATOR
I can almost guarantee most of you have not even heard of this product, but not only is it stupid, it is disgusting. The separator is a clay model shaped like a coffee cup with a man's face on it. The face is complete with a nose that protrudes. This wonderful device allows you to crack the egg inside and pour the egg white out through the man's nose. I can't even say anything more about it.

DUSTER CAT SLIPPERS
Some perfectly sane man, or so he told you, thought up the idea of placing slippers on our cats with dusters on the bottom. As the cats idle around the house, they dust the floor for you. If you have ever owned a cat, you realize how unreal this actually is. Cats hate to have things on their feet and will spend the five minutes after you put them on dusting the same spot with their backs as they try to pry the slippers from their paws.

THE BUTTER STICK
The next time your child pulls out that glue stick for school, I know you are just sitting back remembering all the times you used your handy butter stick for your early morning toast. The absurd idea that butter is so difficult to handle we must enclose it in a plastic cylinder and wind it up like deodorant, still baffles me.

UMBRELLA RAIN TUBE
If you purchased the umbrella with a long tube to protect your entire body from the rain. I can understand in the age of protection and wanting to be safe but I am not sure this will help you. Just really weird.

We could do without Television. It kills family conversation, and rules the house. It can be a bad influence on children with the adverts when kids telly is on with all the adverts tempting kids to try their rubbish foods and toys etc. It can cause arguments as to what programme the family will watch. I was brought up before tellys were available as a child, and we didn't have a telly until I was 11 years old. What happy days it was before telly then. The family played together for entertainment, parents as well as us kids. We would play Rounders, football etc. In the evening it was radio entetainment or playing card games, Ludo, snakes and ladders. We were a real family then. Sadly it is all gone now because of the telly.

I mean it's what made everything complicated. Back in the 40s/50s, all we wanted were these crazy futuristic things..
but now we're trying to recreate what we once had with a futuristic twist in a terrible attempt at making things as simple and beautiful as they were in the past.
