Official language is Arabic and commercial English. Most of the uae citizens from Dubai are familiar with Urdu/Hindi languages. Due to this most of the Indian and Pakistani immigrant's residing in Dubai are not good in Arabic but in other parts of UAE they can manage.

If you know English, you wouldn't have any problems getting around... everyone speaks it.
Most immigrants who have been here for some time have a good knowledge of Arabic. It really depends on their exposure to Arabic speakers.
Personally, I was born and brought up in Kuwait. But I barely speak any Arabic because I was around English-speaking friends all the while.
And yes, Urdu/Hindi are I would say, the second most used language in the UAE. In fact, you'd find a lot of Arabs speaking it too.

Arabic ( the official language of course) and English are the two most used languages in the UAE. All governments places such as hospitals, post offices, banks etc. etc. all converse mainly in English if Arabic is not known. Many Indians and Pakistanis who are not educated tend to speak very little broken arabic, it is definately not the most used language in the UAE but is the most heard as there are so many here and they used it to communicate mostly between themselves socially.

I quite disagree, it would be English. Afterall, UAE is made up of diverse expatriates.
Only if all expatriates in UAE would refuse to utter a word/language that is not their mother tongue, then Hindi or Urdu would be the most used language =)
