Why oh why does our government allow this to carry on, year after year. It is a breeding ground for crime.
I think it should be abolished completely,as it has nothing to do with British Culture or history. The day we are given an extra bank holiday for St Georges day, I might reconsider.

In the mean time. Out law it. It is indirect discrimination and another sample of how the existing govt, does nothing for Britain.

The Criminals should be punished! not the event!

If we gave into people who commit these crimes all the time we might as well abolish everything and have no fun at all!

Concerts, festivals, carnivals ...bye bye because there might be some criminals around.

What a load of rubbish i don't believe it bans white British people does it? yes there is a bit of a problem with crime which is being dealt with. Yes maybe there should be a bank holiday for St Georges day there does seem to be an intolerance of English culture on the left which could be remedied with a proper celebration this could take the flag out of the BNPs hands. I think you will find there is a lot of support for that in black and Asian communities it seems it is in the main odd PC liberals who have a problem with it.

I think it would be a shame if that happened. Reading some of the posts of the people who live there or near there, it would an enjoyable event if it was run properly.
I think more stringent measures should be taken to allow the ones who would enjoy it to be able to have a great day without fear.
Abolishing it is not the answer. That would mean that all events all over Britain would be abolished in the not too distant future, if we go down that road. There are criminal element that will hide in any event if they really want to. policing them better would certainly be a better option. There are security firms as well as using our police service you know.

i don't agree notting hill carnival is one of the only british events left in this country it's never just been for black people from the [british ruled] islands...... i'm mixed raced and have gone to the carnival since i was little i'm now 30 and have taken my little girl who was safe. my godson who is black and his family have always gone his now 11 and plays in the steel bands........ as for being a breeding crime there has always only been a hand full of trouble makers which cause problems which you would get anywhere not just at a carnival it's a shame you think the way you do as you miss out on a wonderful day.......

Come to Greece for st George's day, it;s a huge occasion here!!!

I don;t believe the carnival should be abolished, thousands of people enjoy it every year from all cultures, why should one or two criminals spoil it?

Cpinasti - two people were shot at the carnival yesterday, there is usually at least one death every year. The carnival celebrates black culture in the UK.

I think that the organisers of the Carnival have worked very hard to protect innocent participants but there will aways be crime when large numbers of people gather together. I don't see any reason to ban it unless this country get even more violent when it might become necessary to ban all public events. Awful thought but the way we seem to going I wouldn't that can't happen.

The reality is that the government does not have the power to abolish the Notting Hill Carnival, not without using the army because it would cause the biggest riot Britain has ever seen.

If we are honest we should admit we no longer control the UK( No I am not against the carnival)

What sort of crime do you mean? (Honest question, I am not British and I don't know).
However, I agree that a event like a carnival is a pleasant event and it should be protected from crime, not abolished. Because in every good event crme could intrude if we don't protect it, so what shall we do, stay at home and outlaw going outside our home, because we may be mugged or de-frauded etc?

Its the same at any public event where people go to relax and have a good time. Criminals see this as an oppertunity to pounce on un suspecting people.
You will have a front line of happy people dancing and having a great time, and just yards away someone will be getting mugged quietly at knife point. Dont blame the event, blame the lack of proper security.

I don't understand
How is carnival indirect discrimination?

No it should not be abolished, person for person there is no more crime than there is before during and after your average football game.

And black culture is absolutely a part of British history, whether you like to admit that or not.
