Jesus said, what you do to the least of my brothers you also do to me.
Church is your community. Basically a community of worshipers. The role in the church is like the role in any good community, working together, helping each other. Jesus's message was pretty simple.
But he was also concerned that we should make the whole world our community. Which can be hard for one person, though it means you treat everyone with the same respect and love as those in your church. It can also mean that as a church, as a community you go out and be good to other people.
