Probably the best way is call your Mercury Dealer and ask. The Numbers themselves not give a clue. IF, you are in America, just call and give them the Serial Number, do not tell them it Australian, that only confuse them. The Dealer will look up the numbers and it will fall in a certain year range.
Looking at the link, it newer that a 1988.

For many years, outboard engines and boats were sold to dealers as separate items. Dealers then created “packages” for consumers by pairing engines and boats from their inventories. During the past two decades, however, boat-builders have been more inclined to sell boat and outboard engine packages to dealers, who in turn sell them to consumers. Sterndrive and inboard engines traditionally have been installed by boat-builders and are not identified by Model Year designations. For purposes such as resale and titling, those engines are considered to have originated the Model Year of the boat they are paired with.
This the link to above, if, I have it correct it should open Adobe Reader with a PDF file.

reverse phone number search compiles hundreds of millions of phone book records to help locate the owner's name, location, time zone, email and other public information.

Use a reverse phone lookup to:
Get the identity of an unknown caller.
Identify an area code.
Recall the name of a person whose number you wrote down.
Identify an unfamiliar phone number that shows up on your bill.
