If you are talking about captain's that work for Sea Tow International, I do not believe that it is a great deal of money. The license requirement is only Master 100 ton endorsed for assistance towing. The payrate for most commercial boat operator jobs is based somewhat on the license requirements. I can tell you that the payrate for license as Master 500 ton Oceans is over $500 per day.

Erica, go to United States Coast Guard web site called Home Port, that site will provide "CORRECT" answers to ALL your questions. And,as you'll view you need a captains license with a "towing endorsement",which you cannot obtain either until the age of 18. Most important "right now" is that you start documenting "sea time",which is a basic requirement for testing. And, when your time to test arrives contact "Houston Marine" and they'll sell you the "captains' exam study course.
