re: Previous Question: Is this the worst website?

It seems to have a mixed reaction, which isn't good - I'd much rather the website appeals more...

I've really done my best - I can't improve it any more cos I lack the skills / knowledge / understanding & time...

Is there anybody out there who could take improving the look of this website (www.the-alternative.org.uk)
on as a project?

It is a good cause but my incompetence is holding it back.

All those colors had me looking for the games section. I see you have an order button without a real description of what you are selling. Dump 75% of the graphics, add higher end images and more descriptive content. For a business site, limit your colors to 3 or 4 max.

There are much better editors than Word. NVU http://www.nvu.com will make your page file size much smaller and load faster. You will also be able to set your META and title tags so the heading does not say "Page Title".

If you like using a word processor for designs, download http://www.openoffice.org

It is not the worst website, but not one I would visit further than the first page: all these colours and animations give me headache in less than 3 seconds.
Your "cause" is what you don't show!
The visitor is immediately lost.
And, thanks God, I had sound disabled...

Start with a white page with a light background (like the picture of your arms and hands)
Use 3 font size max.
Use 2 or 3 fonts ONLY. Better just one + bold and italics.
Use 2 to 4 text colours MAX!
And remember the colour wheel: use complementary colours for your menus (many are just unredable).
Sorry.
Good luck.

Have not seen your previous question but i think it could be a better site, first need to center your tables, too many colors, all pages look a bit crowded, page titles missing.

Maybe so, but your incompetence is also getting your site a load of hits!

I think it is content, not appearance, that counts.

Hmm, you may have a point ;-)
