We were discussing friendship. I said he was one of my best friends. He said I wasn't one of his best friends. He said that he might be one of my best friends, but I wasn't one of his best friends. I was somebody he could count on, but I wasn't one of his best friends.

So my question is
How does this happen? And how often?
Two people have totally different views of their friendship.
How did I get such a low status. He had told me he wanted to be as important to me as my best friend is. I gave him that status. One day he referred to me as his co-worker. How can he want me to elevate him to as big as my best female friend...but I don't get the same respect?

I asked him what I was. He said a good friend, my roll dog.

We can't chose our BEST FRIENDS ...
That is something that comes along without us ever even knowing...
But what you need to do if you really like this person- is be the BIGGER PERSON HERE...
Just act like they are still your best friend and get more best friends too...
They will come around and show you if they are true to you when you have other friends around you...
Do not let them know how this statement has hurt you....
Hold your head up and KEEP ON STRUTING...

What respect? You put him in that status, he didn't ask you to make him your best friend. Like trust, friends have different levels...I have a good friend who tells everybody Im her best friend but I don't have the heart to tell her that I don't feel the same about her. When I have a problem, I still run to her for comfort. If I have exciting news, she's still one of the first people I share it with. There are just certain things I don't share with her coz I don't feel secure enough to trust her. If you consider him your best friend, then continue seeing him that way. Best friend, good friend, friend and even acquaintances....its never bad to have too many of those ppl around you.

He just likes hanging out with you. I would not give him the satisfaction of calling him my best friends. Just call him your "dirtbag"!!! See how he feels abou that one!!
