Five different presidents have tried to get universial health care in america.

Truman, Johnson, Nixon, Carter and Clinton.

They all had Democratic Controlled Congress's.

So why did it fail each time ?

Why was it not allowed out of Committee to be voted on each time?

Doesn't the party that controll's Congress, control what Bills get out of Committee ?

Something fishy is going on here.

EDIT:

Cassandra, actually Nixon did try and do that.

Clinton even quoted Nixon, when he sent Hillary care to Congress.

Stratzz, no Clinton had a Democratic Congress when his health care bioll was in front of congress.

The bill was submitted in late 1993 and debated during 1994,

The Republiucans didn't take control of Congress untill Janurary 1995.

jeremiah, You can only fillabuster a bill, after it gets out of Committee.

none of the bills ever made it out of committee.

Congressional Committee's always have one more member of the party that controls congress, than the minority party.

So there is no way a minority party can stop a bill in committee.

All it takes is a simply majority vote to send a Bill out of committee to the floor.

Because the pharmaceutical and health insurance lobbies are extremely powerful and contribute tons of money to all the politicians in both parties.

Because the insurance and pharmaceutical lobbies are too powerful and they are the ones with the real power in Washington.

AND because universal health care would mean that Congress, and ANY federal employees great health care would come to an end. They would actually have to experience some of the pain that the rest of us feel. So that will NEVER happen.

How about lobbying by people who have paid an awful lot of money to have their views heard and acted upon. My guess is that America would be a much better place if contributions to political parties and individuals was made illegal.
A universal medical scheme has much more to do with compassion for your fellow man than it has to do with communism. But that is the sort of paranoid thinking the insurance and pharmaceutical companies like to encourage.

Because they get into bed with the Blood Sucking Insurance Companies and the Price Gouging Pharmaceutical Companies.

Clinton didn't try to do that - he tried to keep the insurance companies involved - and even then, he failed.

Nixon definitely didn't try to do it - he hated the idea. Loved HMOs.

Sorry, I missed Truman, Johnson, and Carter trying it.

It's the insurance companies; they are the beginning and end of the problem. In the middle is the silly brainwashed american public who is scared of 'socialized' anything.

As Kucinich explains in the source video, the DNC and the RNC both pledge their immortal souls to the Green God. Representatives serving the Green God do not serve the people until the Green God (represented in this case by the Insurance Companies) is sated.

One word; filibuster.

Conservatives, for some reason, see Universal Health Care as a form of Socialism. Not only that, but if you get rid of corporate America, you no longer have funding.

So, they filibuster it.

Because it's logistically unsound. I can't speak for others, but I don't want my health care to run with the efficiency of the DMV, airport security, and the USPS.
