We live in a free market society.
If a person truly is the "hardest worker" and is nonetheless let go, then that employer probably won't stay in business for very long.
As to the hypothetical person who was let go - he or she is fully capable of finding another job - presumably with the former employer's competitor.
That's the beauty of American economics - Freedom of choice.

As another posted indicated above, it is not just California, but nearly all States are "at-will".
Any company will always have to answer to the bottom line, profitability; it doesn't matter how hard you work, it matters if what you do is productive and generates a profit for the company.
If the company is losing money, it may go under or sold and everyone loses their job.
If you don't like it, you can do want job security, you can invest in yourself and start your own business, but keep in mind, then you will be the one looking for the best employees who will produce the best results for your company and if someone just isn't cutting it, you may have to let them go.

At Will, is not as hopeless as many believe.
First there are specific instances and categories of employees that are protected under federal law.
Then, many states also provide protection under Public Policy laws, about 38 states do.
Then , you have company policy, IE: employee handbooks.
Employee handbooks that set out company rules and policy for termination are considered a contract, even in AT Will states.
Since most employers have employee handbooks, that negates the At Will laws in most situations.

as lengthy as we are conversing approximately "honest"--unlawful alien supporters save spouting off in regards to the shortcoming of approaches for undesirable Hispanics to return right here and how "unfair" this is. What they don't inform you is that almost a million/2 of ALL felony IMMIGRATION is from Latin usa and numerous of the different a million/2 is from Asia. felony immigration now totals a million human beings each and each 12 months. What they don't inform you is that ONE united states of america, MEXICO sends 15-20% of all felony immigrants each and each 12 months, and has for the previous 2 many years. What they don't inform you is that our felony immigration equipment favors "kinfolk reunification" (inclusive of not in simple terms a kinfolk unit of mom, dad, and minor young ones, however the mummy and dad of mom and pop, their grownup young ones, and their siblings AND the households of the siblings) which finally ends up in a extensive style of poorly knowledgeable and unskilled immigrants who're additionally feasible workers even although they don't input with an employment-based eco-friendly card. There are in simple terms approximately one hundred forty,000 employment-based eco-friendly enjoying cards, so style of 800,000 eco-friendly enjoying cards pass to kinfolk. Now, interior the pastime of "fairness", how honest is it that ONE united states of america monopolizes this style of extensive style of our immigrant visas, or that American taxpayers finally end up subsidizing the importation of poverty? (The monetary sponsorship standards are intentionally set low, at one hundred twenty five% cases the poverty point, to permit the undesirable to sponsor their kinfolk who're probable to be, you guessed it, undesirable to boot.)

There would be no reason for a company to arbitrarily fire their best employee for no reason.
Remember that "at will" does not mean that an employee can be fired for discriminatory reasons such as race, gender, etc.

It allows companies to abuse their authority.... Like it's a seller's market in real estate, well It's a companies "market" as they now have the upper hand. No more staying on a job for 40yrs and retiring. No you need a "back up plan/job" for your "back up plan/job" just to survive
