He has Y! messenger and it says he's "not at his desk" if it says anything at all. All I see is that cat that ate the canary grin on that avatar of him and his responses are short like, "Things are great, gotta go, hope you're well". Does he sound like he's smoking crack or is he trying to take soul possession of black sheep of the family?

My brother is hard to get in touch with. He never answers his home or cell phone. He takes days to get back to you if you send him an email, and if he does respond it is with short, quick messages. But, alas, he is my brother, he always brings beer or a bottle of liquor when he comes to visit, so, by golly, he ain't all bad! No one can ever usurp my title as family black sheep.

Yes. Some brothers are that way. "Gotta go" and "hope you're well" are daily repetitive phrases of workaholics who actually care about you, but it's hard to see.
