My brain is even screaming a "NOOOOO" on this one. This is a definate NO! In America (I am not as sure about the rest of the Western world)..we are soooo disrespectful to our senior citizens. We treat them as an annoyance, an obstacle that we must hurdle over, or as pests. People do not realize that they have gone before us and should be treated with the same respect afforded to everyone, and more even; they are NOT to be treated like dogs. They have gone through much much harder times than we have ever even thought of. They laid the foundation before we ever touched the ground. People really should think more of the older generation and do positive, loving things for them.

Depends on your definition of satisfactory. It also depends on the condition, both mental and physical of the old people. Many pros and many cons. I fight off the cons on a daily basis and see the pros as often as I have to. I'll stay independent as long as possible and I'm thinking about buying another place to live now that the bottom is falling out of the housing market. Sold the last one when the prices were sky high. But a lot of people don't know how to manage and when you're in your 70s as I am, it's probably a little late to catch up in that area.

Most assuredly, they are not.

It seems that all the younger generation wants to do is throw them in a Nursing Home and forget about them. Anything to get them from under their feet, that is, until the youngsters need something. Then it's a different story until they get what they want and then it's back to the same old story. This happens all too often.

However, there are those of us who have a propensity to fight back at the younger wolves. We put our affairs in order and keep them that way, no matter what our age. It's for our own benefit. If we don't take care of us, nobody else is going to do it. I learned this the hard way.

The younger generation, in general, is so "into themselves" that they don't have the time or the will to stop and think about the things around them. They don't remember the the older generations are the ones that fought the wars that maintained their freedom. They invented most of the things that make their lives comfortable today. They forget the teachings of their parents and the sacrifices that they made to get them raised. They forget the college courses that their parents paid for so that they could have the good jobs.

And, after working years for menial wages, the final nail is that our Government treats them like dirt under their feet with the minimal Social Security and Medicare systems. This needs a total reform, but it'll never happen because our Congress and Senate do not have to live on this meager income and medical insurance, they have much better for themselves and their spouses. They made sure of that

So, no, Seniors are not treated satisfactorily. They are disrespected and cast aside by many. I will grant you that there are those who do not treat their elders in this manner, but if you put it on a scale, it's reallly tipped.

The sad thing about it though, is the fact that all of those who are disrespecting the elder population, are headed in that direction themselves. Wonder what it's going to be like for them when they get there!

GOODNESS NO!!!!! Have you been in a nursing home lately??? I am one of the lucky ones who have a family that honors and respects the elderly. They're few and far between these days which is a sad situation! People who provide less than loving, compassionate care for their elderly family members will answer for that !

in the nursing home.. i doubt it.. i use to work for a service that would take them to the doctor.. i went to pick the old woman up and they are suppose to have someone go with them to the doctor.. i ask about that and the home that she was in told me if they did not have a family member they would have to go by them self.. well this lady could only say her name and was in a wheel chair.. but she knew how to move it about.. i told the woman behind the counter what the home told me and told her i could not stay with her and to please watch her and when i left i called socail services.. a week later they called back to tell me that would never happen again.. i also pick up a old woman who kept grabbing her jaw and saying ouch.. she had a tooth ache and no one seem to notice they are only treated right if they have family that go and see about them and stick up for them

Are you kidding? We are made to feel we are a blight
on society...that we are using
up scarce resources....that we
should just die and get off the
planet.
Well, I intend to stay around
till my last breath, and use up
as many resources as I can.
My list of demands are:
plenty of food/low cost shelter/discount on heating/
free transportation/free movie
ticket once/week.

Sometimes, the "elderly" are not treated well at all & often times, they're mistreated by their caregivers, & those caregivers include their own family members. The neglect & mistreatment is unforgiveable.

NO! Our country has lots of room for improvement on how we treat our elderly. Nursing home crime is atrocious, it would make you sick if you knew how prevalent it is. We aren't paying attention because one day it's going to be us. . . . millions of boomers are at the back door now.

Well as far as Know yes. But not in some nursing homes, unless they have relatives and or friends to help them and
speak up for them and their care.

Overall, I do not think that they are. That is why my ultimate goal is to open my own elderly care facility that caters to the elderly, not old people.
