If you're talking about working in Movies, Television, or commericals on TV or Radio, the answer is Ten Percent. This is controlled by the Screen Actors Guild, (Movies and TV shows and commercials done on Film), and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, (AFTRA - for Radio Commercials and any Television work done on Video tape). Even for non-union work, most agents still just charge 10%. If, however, you're talking about modeling for Print ads, there is no union to regulate how much agents charge. The standard amount is 20% in those instances.

Hi,
agents don't really cost you anything. They take typically 10% of whatever you make from a job. That means that you NEVER pay an agent up front. You get paid AFTER you do the job.
For a little more about agents and how to get one, go to: http://www.actingcareerstartup.com/how_to_get_an_agent.html
There's also a free ebook on What It Takes To Become An Actor at the site for new actors.
Hope that helps!

You got the correct information. Here's some more. Agents only offer contracts to people who they can make money with. That means you need to give them a reason to sign you. You obviously have no professional experience. I'd bet you haven't had any professional training. Until you are ready to act at the professional level you are wasting your time trying to get an agent. Also, do you live in NY or LA? That's where almost all the work is. Most likely you are wasting your time.

Once you have an agent they will charge ten percent of your income in their field.
No serios agent take any charges if you dont make any money so go away if they start talking about you paying telefon bills and simular costs. Then theyre not serios.
This aragment is because its a win win situation. In order to make profit your agent has to get you, if they have a contract with you, job.
Good luck! Johan

The standard rate for film and TV agents is 10% of what you earn on each job that they get you -- a legitimate agent will sign you under the assumption that you have what it takes, they'll submit you for roles, (hopefully) you'll get a few of them, and in exchange for them finding these roles for you, you pay them part of your earnings.
Real agents DO NOT charge up front! Anyone who does is a scam.
