It should not affect them much. I wash whites in hot, colors in cold. I don't really pay attention to the label unless they are a delicate fabric or something. If you hang them out to dry they will be a little stiff but that is it.

Dry hanging is always good. With some more delicate clothes its better to dry flat and nicely spread on some newspaper. Because hanging up may stretch the fabric.
Hanging in direct sunlight may make some colours fade. Sunlight may be too harsh for the fabric and dye So hang the clothes in the shade instead. The wind and dryer air on a hot sunny day will take care of the drying.

Another reason for possible fading could be the speed at which the clothes are spun within the washing machine. I have seen some washing machines come the dials that allow u to lower the speed of the spin. Usually this speed is slower when clothes are washed on the delicates or wool cycle. So you may wanna give that a try.

In general going colder in temperature does not hurt clothes. Going hotter..that is hot water will damage clothes.
Tumble drying in itself is usually more strenuous on fabric...often clothes tags list whether a piece of clothing MAY be tumble dried or not. But air drying is always the way to go.

Is it possibly that the clothes you bought have the type of colour/dye that is prone to fading? Or are not as colourfast, that is the colour will run for the first few washes.

Cold water will not harm any fabric. I wash a lot of good clothing and silks in cold water and wool lite or other soap. you can hang dry also, some fabrics it is better no shrinking or fading from a too warm dryer.

warm and hot water tends to fade clothes ,, your better off washing the warm wash clothes in cold water to help prevent fading.. and hanging them up to dry will not hurt the clothes either.
