I love Sweet Home Alabama, it is on my cell phone while you wait for me to answer. However, .38 Special is considered a southern rock band and their music is awesome. Besides Sweet Home Alabama there is one other song that gets me moving and that by the Ozark Mountain Daredevils " if you want to get to heaven, you've got to raise a little hell" When I hear this when driving I crank it up---although I will be 50 next month, I am a rockin granny!!!

I love "Sweet Home Alabama," and it's not nearly as overplayed as "Free Bird!" :) And "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" is a great song, too. But my all-time favorite (so far) southern rock anthem is "Copperhead Road" by Steve Earle. I love how it tells three generations of their story, and that what he learned in Vietnam was that marijuana is more profitable than moonshine! :)

No doubt about it...Free Bird. It's basically two songs in one...with one of the best guitar solos ever.
But almost anything by the Allman Bros comes second. In fact, you can make a very strong case that the Allman Brothers invented Southern Rock as we know it.
