There should be NO smoking in a room with you in it or in a room where your child will some day be. Have him smoke outside only.

I agree completely with Callie's post. Its best if you can try to cut back on smoking while your pregnant, better still if you can stay completely quit; but smoking one or two cigarettes if you need to every now and then is hardly the worst thing you can do. I know lots of women who smoked while pregnant, including myself, and the uncomfortable truth is that as long as you diligently try to cut back on how much you smoke everyday and are otherwise healthy, things will probably turn out ok for your baby. There are no guarantees, and its best to not smoke at all if you can, but none of us are perfect. You shouldnt beat yourself up just because you need the occasional cigarette, even if you are pregnant. It doesnt make you a bad person! Lastly, so sorry to hear that your boyfriend is so awful for leaving you. Several years ago I got pregnant when I was a teenager only to have my guy do the same thing to me too, so I know how hard that can be. You have so much more strength in you than you'd ever know. Just have faith in yourself to know you handle it! Also, best of luck trying to cut back on the cigarettes while pregnant!

I don't have an answer for you, but try calling 1-800-394-HOPE. It's the number for a radio show called Dawson McAllister Live and it's open every weeknight from 6 pm to 2 am. On Sundays, it's from 10 pm to 1 am. (Call on Sundays if you want to get on the radio.) They will help you with whatever problems you have.

This can be a touchy subject especially if your boyfriend is a chain smoker. But if he really cares about yours and the baby's well being, he'll adapt and make a different approach for the both of you.It will be hard but if you suggest him taking small steps and changing a few things about his habit here and there instead of forcing things or making demands, he'll more than likely comply. There are all kinds of health risks for you but even more so for the baby. Low birth weight is one, maybe not so high since you are not the smoker but still, you never know what harm second hand smoking is doing to your baby. You have to be healthy to keep your baby healthy. Once the baby is here...then I would demand that ALL smoking inside WILL stop. Children who grow up in smoking household are also at a higher risk for asthma and other breathing problems. I am sure your doctor can be helpful, just ask.....do it while your boyfriend is with you.

he should go a bit farther so the smoke doesnt get into the house. second hand smoke is extremely harmful to an unborn fetus. let him know your worried about your babies health and hopefully he'll be cool about it and step a little farther from the door... and wait till the smoke blows away to open the door back up.

make him go outside and smoke with that sliding door closed. When he comes in have him wash his hands. Any exposure to second hand smoke is dangerous to you and your developing baby. chemicals left over on his hands can be harmful to you too. Ask him to try to quit as he should never expose an infant to cigarette smoking.

You need to tell him to go outside. Explain to him that it's for the health of his baby. He'll understand I'm sure.

yeah it's still harmful. He should go all the way outside or better yet he should quit for his sake and your baby's. It will continue to be damaging after the baby is born so the best solution is the long term solution of quiting.
