i get the same thing from time to time. worst part is when it wakes you up and you kinda choke on it a bit. there are a few things to prevent it... and its heart burn/acid reflux, whatever you want to call it.
1) use prilosec OTC... takes about 3 days and you will never have to worry about heartburn
2) dont eat big meals within several hours before you go to bed
3) its all about what you eat... no garlic, onions, tomatoes (or anything made from tomatoes), citrus, booze, and for the love off God, stay away from fried food. thats just to name a few.
This should calm most of it down if you follow it.
And shame on those that feel she must be fat because of the name... im fit, surf all the time, and look at my name.

Yeah, that might be due to acid reflux disease or GERD that I also have. I'm on Cimetidine. or Zantac.
What is GERD (acid reflux)?
Gastroesophageal reflux disease, commonly referred to as GERD, or acid reflux, is a condition in which the liquid content of the stomach regurgitates (backs up, or refluxes) into the esophagus. The liquid can inflame and damage the lining of the esophagus although this occurs in a minority of patients.
The regurgitated liquid usually contains acid and pepsin that are produced by the stomach. (Pepsin is an enzyme that begins the digestion of proteins in the stomach.) The refluxed liquid also may contain bile that has backed-up into the stomach from the duodenum. (The duodenum is the first part of the small intestine that attaches to the stomach.)
Acid is believed to be the most injurious component of the refluxed liquid. Pepsin and bile also may injure the esophagus, but their role in the production of esophageal inflammation and damage (esophagitis) is not as clear as the role of acid.

BigM,
it is acid reflux. First, I would recommend that you start drinking lots of water. Second, and most important I suggest you see a Doctor. She/He can prescribe medication like prevacid or something for this condition. The terrible thing about acid reflux is that it tears away at your asophagous and then one day you won't be able to swallow. That is the worsed case scenario however.
I once had it and also had a lot of stress in my life at the time. The medication helped; however, I had to change a much larger pattern in my life that the Doctor was not able to diagnose - something only I could do that I realized I "needed" to do for my health. Each person and situation is different. Take care of yourself BigM - your son will be fine by the way, you need to take care of YOU.
Friends,
Gerry :)

It sounds like acid reflux.
One of the most important things is to make sure you don't eat right before bed.
It's important that when you do eat, not to lie down for atleast 1/2 hour afterwards, sometimes they say to wait an hour.
You really do need to go to the doctor to get that checked.
Acid reflux can cause alot of problems if left untreated.
Being overweight (and you haven't even said that you were, but I saw some other people mention it) has nothing to do with it.
My son has it and he is very much "under weight".
But it does need to be treated.
Good luck ;)

yah, it sounds like GERD. Loosen up your pants and stop bending over. When I was 19 i had a massive GERD attack to the point where I couldn't breathe. I went to the ER, and an older doc had me prepped for thyroid surgery, then a younger doc came in and gave me some antacid. I had really bad heartburn. I was also a bit overweight, so I dropped 20 lbs and it doesn't bother me as much. I still get it, but I avoid all the things that caused it before in the past. Lemonade, coffee, spicy chips and food. Tomatoes, lettuce, cabbage. All sorts of things.
Try some of the OTC meds. For quick relief, tums.

Sounds like it could be acid reflux. The best thing for you to do is visit your doctor to find out and he will prescribe medication for you. Don't let this go untreated if it has been going on for months. Maybe it is what you are eating lately.
My son thought he had bad heartburn and stomach problems and let it go until he was rushed to the hospital with a ruptured colon. Take care of yourself. God Speed.

This is a side effect to having acid reflux disease, i'd go talk to a doctor about it, because it can be dangerous if not treated, you can actually throw up in your mouth at night and it block your air ways...really, i've heard of people dieing from it...so, i'd go get it checked out for peace of mind.

It does sound a lot like acid reflux, but you need to rule out any environmental issues as well. Stress, change in diet, caffeine, or anything heavy in acids like orange juice, lemonade, coffee and such will aggravate your stomachs acid balance and can cause that. You will also see that a lot in women that are pregnant in their second and third trimester.

It sounds like GERD or reflux. You should see your doc and see what he/she says about it. You may need some medication.
Also- try to avoid spicy foods. Caffeine can loosen the muscle at the bottom of the esophagus which allows the acid to go up. Avoiding caffeine may help.
