My son will be 5 months old next week. He usuallly eats 5 times a day (first bottle at 7:30am, last one at 11:30pm - every 4 hours). He eats 7 oz of formula each time. He is sleeping right now (has been since about 10:00pm. Do I wake him to feed him or see if he'll go through the night? He was SUPER fussy today (not sure if its just the full moon or not ;), so I don't want to disturb him too much. Maybe this is the night I see if he can through straight until morning without his nighttime bottle? It will mean he's only eaten 4 times today. He is a very big boy so there is no worry that he's 'starving', but it just makes me nervous to try this out...advice would be great!

What are the chances he'll wake up at 3 am for food? I'm happy getting my 6 hours straight! :) Oh, but how great would 8 hours be...ahhhh. I can only dream.

We usually give him a bath right before his bottle, so he'll have missed his bath tonight; not the end of the world, but definitely a change in the routine we've established for him.

Why on earth are you on the computer and not in bed!!!
Don't wake him, go to sleep! Enjoy this night, as they are few and far between.
My son never ate on a schedule. He ate when he was hungry. He's 16 months old and has been in the 90% for height and weight since birth.
By 5 months old babies should be starting to sleep longer. Many babies also go through changes in their sleeping patterns when they are sick or are going through developmental growth stages.
Don't worry. If he gets hungry, he'll wake up. He's in no danger and it would probably be worse to wake him and deprive him of much needed sleep.
Get to bed while you still can!!!!

At 5 months he should be sleeping through the night without any problems. At least 8-10 hours. He's on a strick schedule and is used to being up for feedings. There is an old phrase, never wake a sleeping baby...lol It's time to let him cry if he wakes up in the wee hours, believe me, he'll go back to sleep and a few nights you'll be able to get a good nights sleep. I always fed mine before they went to sleep after their bath and next thing I knew, it was 7 am. He really doesn't need to have a feeding at night unless he's very skinny and not eating well during the day.
Good luck mom
Oh, and once they do it for one night, they can do it from them on..don't give in...lol

Some doctors say yes, but when my second son was born almost 3 years ago, the doc said that if he was sleeping, DON'T WAKE HIM UP!!!!!! The baby will know when she/he is hungry, so if she/he will sleep through the night and not wake up, then she/he is not hungry enough. Babies need 12 to 16 hours of sleep in their firs 2 years. After that, you wish they would sleep that many :-). But I was told by a doctor here in New Mexico to never wake a baby to feed it. And other than the sleep I gain, it does actually make sense.

I would see if he would go through the night. He has to one night and it might just be right time. If he wakes then feed him. I've learnt to never wake a sleeping baby, even for food. If you wake him he's just gong to get use to it and expect it always. At 5 months old he should be sleeping with out having to be fed. Just try it and see what heppens. He'll let you know if he wants a feed, lol. Hope he sleeps through :-)

Let him sleep. If he gets hungry, he WILL wake you up. By 5 months old, babies are usually ready to sleep through the night without eating. As he eats more solid foods, he will need less formula. He could be teething or growing through a growth spurt. Both will make them fussy and sleep more... at any rate, enjoy your sleep as you've earned it after dealing with a fussy baby all day. It will let you be better prepared for whatever tomorrow holds.

NO! Don't wake him! He's easily able to go the night without eating at five months. Getting him to sleep through the night is the goal, and he's the perfect age for it. He'll eat more during the day to make up for the missed feeding.

If he doesn't wake up himself just sit it out and see how he goes. It may mean that he wakes up earlier and his routine just needs a change. If he stays asleep through the night and wakes earlier, just follow on every four hours from then. It may just be his way of telling you he wants an earlier bedtime?
If he does wake up by himself halfway through the night though just feed him then and just feed him more at his 6:30pm feed next time?

He will wake up when he is hungry. Some nurses told me to wake him up to feed him. I figured it out on my own... I didn't wake him up...I waited for him to be hungry...I was really lucky and he started sleeping through the night at 2-1/2 weeks old. Leave him and see what happens...my son gained weight right on schedule...so he won't starve.

let him sleep...at this age he should be able to go more than 7 hours at night. at about 4 1/2 months my son started to go about 11-12 hours at night. he goes to bed at 8 and wakes up about 7 or 8. he is also a big boy...21 lbs at 6 months.
your son may be telling you he's ready to go longer!

If it's night time and you want him to sleep through the night.. let him sleep.. if it's during the day go ahead and wake him.. That way he might be more tired come night time and sleep longer... Either way he will wake up on his own when he gets hungry enough..
