By far, the best (and most prolific) American songwriter (both lyrics and music) is probably someone you've never heard of. (But you definitely know her music!) Her name is Diane Warren, and she's never recorded a song, either as a singer, or a musician. She did, however, write number one hits in the pop, country, rock, R&B, AND Spanish genres. Her songs have been recorded by artists as vast as Celine Dion, Meat Loaf, Johnny Mathis, and Aerosmith. She once had seven hits (all recorded by different artists) on the Billboard charts at one time, a record yet to be broken. Her songs have been featured in more than a hundred movies. No genre of American music would be the same without her.

The best British songwriters are the team of Bernie Taupin (lyrics) and Elton John (music). The two have colaborated for forty years, and had fourteen American hits.

Hello ~ past due 60's British Blues-Rock invasion. When Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac went on excursion in America, they have been applauded as geniuses. They attempted to make the American audiences realise that they *already* had this track of their nation, however refused to recognize it on the grounds that the artists were not white. Who the hell do you suppose Elvis used to be prompted by means of? He took a kind of track and simply re-packaged {and in a few circumstances censored} it right into a variety that the white audiences could take delivery of. And besides, Britain has consistently had the great Rock bands, adding :~ Led Zeppelin ; Jethro Tull ; Pink Floyd ; The Beatles ; The Who ; Mike Oldfield ; The Rolling Stones ; Queen ; Free ; Dire Straits ; Cream ; Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac ; The Police ; The Cult ; The Kinks ; Elton John ; Fairport Convention ; and so forth... The Jimi Hendrix Experience used to be a British band, in spite of Hendrix being an American.
