Ok... I know I am going to get slammed for this, but oh well...
WHY???? would anyone want to live or rebuild on something that is so beneath the sea level that at anytime it will be washed away again?
I know its home.. i get that.. But, Why??
.. It woukd be like the people from Mt. Saint Helens..climbing to the top and rebuilding there home.. What the heck are we thinking? There are so many other wonderful places to live. Why even try it there?

Please dont take this as if I am heartless. I cried and took in strangers when the Hurricane hit.
I just dont understand why people woukld want to live there now?
They know it is a death trap.. Concrete and dams can only do so much!!
When you live in a Swamp your going to have problems.
Is it worth your life?

I cant believe that I am getting mature and common responces.. I thought there would be a bunch of people saying" Thats their Home... they have the right!"
I agree that there are alot of resources from there.. I live in Mobile Alabama.. also on the coast.. but not a swamp land... The Gulf of Mexico holds almost all of our Oil rigs for the USA.... It is important.. But we dont need swamplands to do it....

I agree,. i have read a few responses from different people about a similar question i had asked on the same subject. I was told in a rather long drawn out way...that New Orleans is Vital to American Shipping and Energy concerns. But then making such a statement does not justify...continually rebuilding while knowing ...the high likelihood of the same thing happening..again...and when it does...will we once again rebuild?...ad infinity?... Where does it stop i guess is my question...when does reality set in?...All of these coastal city's around the U.S. are tragedies waiting to happen. There are Tornado's that do damage.. that goes without saying...yet...statistically...the Coastal city's ..are much more likely to fall prey to Hurricanes and Monsoons...i wonder how...any Insurance company can Underwrite these areas knowing the high probability of recurrence unless of course .. the policy is backed up by the Government ..in which case i have to ask..how much of my tax dollars are going to foot the bill for their lack of common sense.

They're allowing this in Florida right now, they allow the contractors and builders to fill in and build on the swamps and low lands, what's going to happen there ? the same as in New Orleans of course.
The have their "sink holes now from the water under the ground, it swallows up whole neighborhoods. It's all for greed. Who pays for it in the end, we do, the tax-payer.

They left behind a lot of fine social programs there. That's why they want to come back to the "chocolate city".
