I think of cheaply made, low quality products that aren't necessarily inexpensive either. I think of the toy recall that's been going on recently where small parts can be pulled off and swallowed or toys that have been decorated with lead-based paint. I think of the pets that have gotten sick and even died because they were fed contaminated food by their owners. I think of products that quickly break or stop working because they are so poorly made. I think of the lousy working conditions at the factories there and how the workers spend many hours making products they are not able to afford themselves. I also think of the displaced American workers who are having to take whatever jobs they can find just to pay the bills. The way things are going right now just can't continue. If they do continue as they have been, there will be no market for cheap Chinese goods because Americans will no longer be able to afford to buy them.

In international trade there's always the political aspect: protectionism, free trade, liberalization, etc. These policies are decided upon by, yes, politicians, who may or may not have vested interests to protect.

I do believe that countries have the right to protect their citizens from products that could be harmful to the people, especially the kids. The fears on Chinese-made products might be unfounded but the bottomline is, it's better to be safe than to be sorry.

I think it is helping destroy the economy of the US. They have lower living standards, and are willing to work for lower wages. The latest recalls (poison in pet food, lead paint on childrens toys) show a high bdis-regard to the import laws of the US. They sell products at 2/3 the price of everybody else, and the quality of a lot of it is junk, doesn`t last long enough to get it home. The so-called new world order implemented by president Bush`s father, along with nafta, is taking jobs away from Americans because of these lower wages they pay. infusing America with low quality products, yet Americans are still having to pay high prices to maintain our standard of living, and buying these lower priced products, hoping to save a dollar in order to make ends meet, yet getting ripped off in the process.

Didn't a whole bunch of toys made w/ lead paint from China recently get recalled?

Also, I think it's worth musing at the fact that we import video games from oversees. Think about it. It takes intelligence to make these games, but we over here liek to play them in excess at the expense of our brains and the acquisition of knowledge/intelligence.

Sorry if that sounds a bit jumbled, i think u get what i'm saying though

Let's see...Could that "Political" reason be...........

Dog food, that killed many pets?
Sea Food,- contaminated shrimp or talopia grown in sewage?
Toys with lead paint, to harm our children?
Clothing with chemicals to make us sick?
Toothpaste, with chemicals to make us sick?
etc, etc, etc.
Perhaps we just don't feel China's products are safe? Or maybe it would be nice to find American made products, which is getting harder by the day.

I have always been uncertain, but the sloppiness now has put everyone on alert to the rather shoddy standards they hold to

I think China is not up to par with other countries standards and practices, but they will be shortly. most products from China are safe, but we don't hear about those.
