Okay, people, Joni Mitchell isn't an American, she's Canadian, (Good job, rambow!) and the duo of (Paul) Simon and Garfunkel are the most prolific folk group in US history, with sixteen Billboard hits.

Anyway, I would've said James Taylor, but you beat me to it! ;)
