I mean, they lost by 16 runs today, so are they going to score an absurd amount of runs in the next 3 games with Boston? IS THEIR FRUSTRATION THAT HAS BEEN BUBBLING INSIDE, GOING TO FINALLY EXPLODE? WILL GOD PUNISH ME LIKE THIS?!

Haha. I'm really tired :)

No.
Joe Torre has lost all his fortitude and gumption.
(YES, THOSE ARE REAL WORDS! LOOK UP THEM IN A DICTIONARY!).
I think it is pretty safe to say, that being 8 games out NOW that if the yankees are to be considered any sort of chances they would have to win ALL of the 6 games left with Boston.

And you and I both know that isnt going to happen.

I really hope that the Yankees continue on their losing streak through the week, and Boston takes advantage of it.Irregardless of what happens, if they do happen to sweep us, they will still be 5 games out of first place. They have a much harder September coming up then we do, harder road trips and home games. But I don't think there is any possible way they will sweep us.Were coming to play, were hitting, were fielding, were pitching.Bring on the Yanks.Pitching match ups are so so in my opinion.
Dice-K vs. Petite=If the Yanks wanna win at all this week, it would be against this guy.13 ER in 10 innings.
Beckett vs. Clemens=Boston has this in the bag.
Schilling vs Wang=Toss up, The Big Schill has always had problems w/ the Yankees. But the Yankees are also not producing, so we'll see.

Lets face it even if the yankees take two out of three from the Red Sox, they're going to be down 7 games at the end of this week's three game series. The yankees have all the hitters in the world but evidently, their pitching doesn't and wont stack up to the best team in baseball's rotation. These guys are professionals, they don't take out their frustration. They go into each game with the same attitude regardless of the team they're playing against. Do you think they were messing around when they got whooped by the Tigers? No, they just had a terrible game, so they go out there and try to win every game. They got beat by a better team, frustration is what brings teams down not brings teams up. The yankees know how to play baseball, it's just a matter of when they're going to do it. They don't wake up one morning and decide they're going to try, they try year round trying to win, other teams are just playing better against them this season because cashman and steinbrenner didn't go out and get any pitchers that under the age of 40. It comes as no surprise that they are 8 games behind the Red Sox. This is their last shot, it's a sweep of the Sox or the Yankees are done. Maybe they'll be more focused yes, but not frustrated. Losing is frustrating no matter what, and if they show their frustration they'll be pressing and swining at bad pitches, that's the nature and psychology of sports, so if they're smart they'll go out and play baseball the way they're supposed to and get paid to do every day.

Matsuzaka is 2-0 against the Yankees, and some moron up there obviously doesn't know about something called run support.

Beckett's 3-0 in August with a ridiculous 2.25 ERA. Clemens wears Depends.

Wang is mediocre at best pitching day games...4-4 with an ERA over 4. And if posting a 5.46 ERA in the month of August is "back on track" I'd love to see how Wang pitches when he's slumping.

I'm not predicting a sweep, but the direction the Boston offense has been going plus the pitching rotation in place definitely favors the Red Sox.

Yankees Fan is either amazingly ignorant or amnesiac when he/she claims Schilling always loses to the Yankees. Schilling's career highlights have been beating the Yankees in the playoffs, with Arizona and Boston.

Frustration can help in a contact sport like football and maybe an endurance sport like basketball, but it's not going to help much in baseball. Maybe give a tired pitcher some adrenaline to keep going, but emotion isn't helpful for hitting or fielding. The only way you can "pile on" in baseball is to steal bases late in the game with a huge lead, and that's not going to have a big effect on the score. No hitter or fielder is going to quit trying because they have a big lead, certainly not in this rivalry.

Just playin' with numbers, but let's take a look.

Thru 27-August:
Boston 80-51
New York 72-59

31 games remaining each, including six head-to-head.

Assumptions:
1. they split the six games, 3-3;
2. Boston plays its other 25 one game below .500, 12-13.

Boston final record: 95-67.

New York final record to win AL East: 96-66 (because Boston will own the tiebreaker).

NY needs to go in its other 25 remaining games: 21-4 (.840).

I'm just not foreseeing this amazing surge happening.

The math says it is possible.

The faith-baseballed Yankee fandom knows it will come to pass.

The reality-baseballed world says it won't. Not this year.

So they lost to detroit. Mussina has been garbage the last few times he started. Something is wrong with his Psyche and he has lost his edge. I knew he was going to get rocked today. Roger, Wang and Petite will bring them back. They HAVE to win and catch up to Seattle soon. Im not worrying tho, I think they will catch up to SEA and get the wild card. THEN it will be a whole NEW SEASON.

They simply don't have the talent. This season is not about frustration. It is about relying on old, far from their prime pitchers, and new comers who are not in their prime yet and may never achieve their expectations. The Yankees are right about where their talent places them. They are a wild card contention team at best.

well look at the match ups
pettite v.s matsuzaka - dice -k has been struggling and petitte is on fire

Clemens v.s Beckett- Beckett has been good all year he has a good chance to win Clemens has been good at home

Wang v.s schilling- Wang was better last start but schilling is always tough

i think the Yankees have a handful but it can be done

and Elliot trust i asked my brother does god even care about the Yankees win or does he help him and he responded " god could care less about sports he has more important things to worry about it

No, they won't. And Dice K hasn't been "sucking lately" he's just not had any run support at all when he pitches.

Hopefully the Yanks get that Penn guy in most of the games against us!
