sounds like you have a carburated truck, check your float bowl tap the side of it (lightly) see if that helps. Your float bowl needle is probably stuck open and you getting gas pouring out of your overflow tube directly into you carb. That's why you don't see a leak. This'll make you burn more gas, smell gas, and foul your plugs big time, aaand it can cause your truck to catch fire. Hope this helps.

Hi ya. Logic would dictate that if you can smell gas as if there is a leak then there must be a leak. There is a fuel return to the tank line underneath the vehicle which may have been damaged lately. This returns excess fuel from the injection system to the tank when the motor is not working too hard. What you should check....All tank connections including filler neck,Check underneath the vehicle whilst the engine is running ,with the gearshift in neutral ,park brake engaged and some one sitting in the drivers seat with their foot on the brake pedal.Do you now see any visible petrol leak...Also check your air filter(Not clogged is it) and your exhaust system to make sure it has not been damaged. Also check(whilst running ) all round the fuel lines in the engine-bay for signs of leakage.Again, have some one in the drivers seat to ensure the vehicle does not move accidently while you are absorbed in checking it out.

The two main things to look for when burning rich, is a bad oxygen sensor or bad MAP sensor or your engine could be skipping, which means a bad cylinder. Could be caused by bad plug or wire, cracked distributor cap. Don't over fill your gas tank because you will just over load your charcoal canister and you will get a strong odor of gas and the engine will misfire until the extra fumes are burned off. So have all of these checked out and get back to me and I will give you some more information if any of these don't clear the problem up, but I am pretty sure they will if everything I told you is working properly.
Sincerely yours,
Fred M. Hunter

there is a leak and you will find that leak when your motor catches on fire because that is what is up next ----- please take the truck to a good mechanic and get some new hoses and gas filter and a tune-up ------------ you are going to be much safer and happier with the job correctly accomplished and no more gas smell or high consumption .............
