I am trying to show that TotD reveals religious skepticism preluding in Victorian times. I have a lot of evidence, but I need a few more key points. Has anyone read the book and perhaps remember any instances that could be used to support RS? Or any evidence in Victorian society and Thomas hardy's life alone?

Thanks.

I remember Hardy tells us that the vicar who told Tess her baby would fare 'just the same' in unconsecrated ground, had his private doubts about the religion.
And clearly the reader is expected to be out of sympathy with the man who paints hell-fire texts all over the place.
