Hon, they both have the same diphenhydramine that is the component that puts you to sleep, but Tylenol PM also contains Tylenol, so don't take it if you don't have pain.

I have had two babies and I've taken both Tylenol PM and just Unisom (which is the sleep stuff but without the pain killer.) I have two, healthy, big, vigorous boys. My doctor, and then my midwife, said it is perfectly safe to take Unisom if you need to sleep, or Tylenol PM if you need a painkiller and to sleep. I wouldn't take the Tylenol if you don't need a painkiller as you can get just the sleep part of the medication. Not only that, but the sleep stuff helps curb morning sickness. I believe! It worked for me!

If you are not used to a lot of meds, 1 Tylenol should do the trick. However, in my case; I take Benadryl. It's a potent antihistaminic and has some sedative effect.

Another bit of information, Tylenol can cause liver toxicity and /or liver damage. .Acetaminophen toxicity is caused by depletion of the amount of glutathione levels in the liver and may ultimately result in liver failure.

In addition to the plethora of over-the–counter drugs containing acetaminophen the following prescription pain killers also contain acetaminophen:

Codeine/Tylenol, #1,2,3,4,; Darvocet; Lorlab; Lorcetl Norco; Percocet; Tylox; and Vicodin.

Either one. It's the benadryl in the tylenol pm that helps you sleep. So, either way you are taking benadryl for sleep.

Benadryl if you don't have pain, Tylenol PM is the same ingredient as Benadryl, but with acetaminophen also.
