Hi,

lst you must put them in order.......

13 15 27 28 39 40 41

then you have to cut them into two equal groups of three numbers:

13 15 27.........28..........39 40 41....
...3 here..........................3 here.....

Since there is a number left over in the middle, that's the median (like the divider in the road). In this one the median is 28.....I hope you see how I cut them into two groups of 3.

Just another EX. If you have no number in the middle, then you split the difference in the closest two numbers.
13 14.......16 17 .........this would have a median of 15, because the number in between 14 and 16 (the closest) is 15. Or you can add 14 and 16 then divide by 2.

The median is the one in the middle, the mode is the one that happens the most (mode=fashion in french?), and the mean is the average. Don't listen to people that have you doing the average.

Hope this helps,
B

Median - The middle value (in numerical order) in a set of data. If there are an even number of data values, then the median is the number in between the two middle values, or the mean of those two values.

1) Put the number in order from lowest to highest.

13, 15, 27, 28, 39, 40, 41

2) The middle number of the set of number is 28, therefore your answer is 28.

To find the median, or middle number, you must arrange the numbers in order. The middle number is the median.

13, 15, 27, 28, 39, 40, 41 --- so the median is 28.

28.

In a given set, the median is just the number in the middle. Since you have 7 terms in this set, the middle term will be the fourth term b/c there will be three terms on either side of it. So, all you need to do is put the numbers in order and identify the fourth term:

{13, 15, 27, 28, 39, 40, 41}

The fourth term is 28, so this is your answer.
____________

EDIT: Just so you know, the first answerer gave you the "mean," which is just another word for average. You asked for the "median," which is the value I provided.

First off, ignore the first answer. It is wrong.

list your numbers in order:

13
15
27
28
39
40
41

The median is the number which has exactly as many numbers above it as below it.

In this case it is 28.

Median is not the average.

Not. Not. Not. Not. Not.
