my mother thinks anxiety (I get panic attacks when I'm in stressful situations....like driving sometimes....
is a chemical imbalance
She tells me she wants to be in denial of this.
She doesn't like the idea of medication and neither do I, but there are days (PMS) when I need some sort of tranquilizer...I get extra nervous.
Exercizing has helped me, but I might need meds as backup.

The fact that she wants to take me to a psychiatrist, makes me question my own sanity

No one in my family understands this

Note: I don't want to be put on anti-depressants

I would make an apt. with your doc. & get a check-up. You don't need to see a psychiatrist but getting a physical wouldn't hurt. There are some heathy things you can do to avoid the ups & down of PMS. Eat a good nutritious diet (organic when you can), avoid all white foods (sugar, flour, starch & fast foods), caffeine, go to bed @ the same time each evening. All these things can reduce stress, which can exacerbate your PMS symptoms....

Having anxiety and panic attacks doesn't mean you're crazy. There are meds for anxiety. You say you don't want to be on medication, but you might feel differently after being on it for a while and you notice how much better you feel. Don't just ignore it, I've seen it grow immensely in my friend and it put her life on hold for years now. See the doctor, talk and see what his/her opinion is. Good luck.

Just cause you get panic attacks doesn't mean your crazy. I know lots of ppl who are like that including my sister but most of the time they are overwhelmed with stress and they cant deal with it all. Also, everyone tends to sometimes think of the worste and thats how they start panaking(sp) but no your not crazy and i agree with the midol thing and also just because your mom wants you to see a psychiatrist doesnt mean they think your crazy or mean you Are but it may help so i would just try it for awhile and see if you get results. Lots of ppl also go to see one if they have OCD but most ppl with OCD are completly normal but i know it has helped them so maybe it will help you relieve some stress.
