I went away for 2 days and when I came back I noticed that my beta fish's tail is shorter and less 'flowy' than it was before. It doesn't look like anything is wrong with him because he is as perky and colorful than ever, but I'm concerned why his tail seems shorter. Has anyone been in this situation or have any suggestions on what has happened or if there is anything I should do?

Sometimes this can actually be fin rot. Watch him very closely for a few days, check for anything that looks abnormal. Is there a fuzz-like growth on his tail? Are the edges of his tail black or clumped? Are they ragged? Are they still getting shorter? Sometimes it doesn't show up for a couple of days and the betta will be completely oblivious to it, and act and look normal.

Keep a close eye on him, though. If it is fin rot, you should see signs very soon. Make sure you have kept up with your water changes and that all of your water parameters are where they should be!

Good luck! I hope you figure it out soon!
