Boric acid doesn't repetl cockroaches but it will kill them by jamming up their joints and dessicating them. Even though termites are social cockroaches, I don't think Boric Acid has any effect on them at all. They don't walk in the same areas that cockroaches do. So if your are looking for a barrier keeping wood away from the dirt around your house will help as termites need to tunnel to wood but they are very creative in making tunnels up to wood. The best barrier for termites is a chemical one that can be injected into the soil and/or your wood house beams, studs etc. While you have the area open that kind of treatment might be a good idea, although the pesticides currently approved don't last as long as they did. I guess that's why they were banned, they were too persistent in the environment. If you don't currently have cockroaches, and your neighborhood is not prone, you could dust with the boric acid (be careful with it) but it won't last very long at all as an effective barrier. The best thing is to seal entries into your house, (particularly plumbing) keep it clean and uncluttered, don't make crumbs and treat with boric acid if and when you get some insects. If you already have the little pests, talk with your local pest control persons, and your neighbors and see about getting some biological pesticides, growth hormone types, use the boric acid and consider how many types of pesticides you want in your home. Cleanliness, eliminating food sources, vacuuming, eliminating hiding places go a long way, then gels and baits put in hidden places, like cracks and crevices will help kill the critters. Do not make any agreement for baseboard spraying. It would be better for you to get your house bagged and pumped full of cyanide gas to kill roaches than to have monthly baseboard spraying, (bagging is an option). Any way thats probably more information than you wanted. Have fun with the sheet rock.

Don't know about the termites, they like dampness, but boric acid will kill roaches. It's worked for me in apartment where roach bait only half solved the problem.

Borax acid is good for killing off roaches, Termites come in to places that are damp and where there is wood They can also come though your conceit floor in the basement. You might want to call a pest control company and have them check for termites before you start your project.

Yes, as far as roaches and other bugs go. I do not think it has much effect on termites though. It also helps discourage mold growth.
