im not prenant, but ive been having problems that even people in the medical profession have suggested that should have an ultrasound done the problem is i dont have health insurance, therefore the docs never ordered me one and seems my only hope is to somehow get the er to do one but as they only ''treat the emergency'' what can i say to have them determine it as an emergency, please there must be some compassionate people out there who can relate to the horrors of trying to get help without insurance

wow sabrina-spoken like a TRUE medical, unprofessional, there are alot of words i have for the cold blooded ignorant sadistic people like you that are in the medical field,it is so unfortunate,i can only long for the day when you and your loved ones are on the ''recieving end'' of your mentality!! If people were given the proper medical care and respect they deserve in the first place people wouldnt have to go to the er for a non emergency, however, when there are no other options to them and they are suffering, they need to care for themselves, and dont worry, ive never seen a doctor give his attention to anyone until hes good and ready and has finished eating and laughing with the staff in the back, which in the state of florida is exactly what they do,maybe 1 in a million actually attends to someone in a reasonable amount of time...........btw to the other people who answered with compassion THANK-YOU,also if youll notice SABRINA went through and gave you all thumbs down,i gave you all ups!

sabrina..my situation is not an emergency as in i will die tomorrow if not treated it is however in emergency in that if my problem continues to go untreated it can very well escalate to a life threat-illness,and that dear is like many people out there who end up in the er,not because they are selfish, because they need help,i suppose in ''your'' world you only desire to help people on their way out oppsed to ''preventative care''.a true medical professional would agree with that!!

They measure an emergency based on a few things. Without insurance, I'm afraid you might have to lie a little. Emergency clues: vomiting, bleeding, loss of consciousness, extreme pain.

Problem with that, is you might get into trouble. What you can do is keep trying different ER's until you find one who is willing to give you a chance. Try going first thing in morning, when it's not as busy.

Let me help clear up the confusion on this one. It is not a matter of the Dr.won't order it, they have guidelines that they have to follow in the er. For example did you know that they can't do a pelvic ultrasound on you unless you have a positive pregnancy test? Yes, it is true. An ectopic pregnancy is a life threatening emergency. An ovarian cyst, fibroid tumor or even a mass is not an emergency believe it or not.

Even if you don't have insurance, have the ER refer you to a clinic that can diagnose and treat you.

I know it is sad, but emergency rooms are for true emergencies. If your vital signs are normal, and your labs are normal, there is a pretty good chance that you are normal too. Didn't anyone in the er explain this to you?

How can you ask for help and then give thumbs down when people tell you why you cant get an ultrasound in the er just because you want one? Obviously I am not mistaken, because they won't give you one!!!!!!! I just made the mistake of trying to explain how the ER works to you. Why are you so viscious?? I was only trying to explain it to you, to help you.

Well, if they really think you need one, they can order it. Can you find a hospital that has a good grant for people w/o insurance? There are two in my city, but you have to call them in advance and tell them your situation. A friend of mine is a doctor there, and she told me that the grant is so good people can get anything they want.

Otherwise, it would seem to me to be a matter of favorably influencing the doctor, and perhaps also getting the right doctor. My friend is a very strong advocate for people getting the care they need, regardless of insurance status. People on her caseload do well. Her practice runs out of the hospital, and she gets most of her patients through the emergency room.

To favorably influence a doctor, you should tell them what another doctor said and recommended, as precisely as you can remember. Include the approximate date of your contact with the other doctor, and give the name of the doctor as well. Doctors respect other doctors first and foremost. If you have a history of coming in to an emergency room multiple times, perhaps eventually they will recommend the ultrasound, because proper treatment would stop you from coming. But you will likely have to remind them of the dates you were in, and what was said. Keep your own notes, don't trust the hospital's alone. Stay calm and respectful, but be firm.

Good luck, sorry I can't be of more help.

it truthfully relies upon on how some distance you're, like they say dates can exchange each and every sometimes it truthfully relies upon on the ultrasound gadget and the tech, if the tech gets the measurements a sprint of than your date Will exchange. i will have confidence the emergency room extra by way of fact those human beings get extra hand on preparation and you truthfully would desire to have bypass the board in case you artwork for a common health center you purely desire a certificates from college asserting which you took the direction, yet whilst your nonetheless uncertain approximately your due date the suitable factor is to do a blood try ask the frequently used practitioner for a quantitative hcg and which will tell how some distance you're. good success and congrats!!!! ***ttc toddler #a million***

The only way to get an ultra sound is for the er doc to order it.And since you have no insurance you'll be billed for the er visit and the ultra sound.Try talking to your doctor about a payment plan.I did.Needed a sleep study that cost $3000.I paid $250 down and $100 a month.

Go to the ER and tell them you are having pain in the area where the ultrasound needs to be performed.

Then ask the doc if he feels an ultrasound is warranted.

This should get you one performed.

What you describe is NOT AN EMERGENCY!! DONT GO TO THE ER!!! Go to your regular physician and talk to them. If they chose not to order it, go to another doctor, in a clinic, NOT AN ER. WE ARE NOT PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIANS/CLINICS and don't perform tests just because a Patient wants it. You can contact your state's department of health and see if there is anything available to you. I would assume Medi-CAL is only good in California, I know we don't have it here.

We are also pretty good at telling when people lie to us. We get a lot of practice at it.

Please, don't clog up the ER with a visit more suited for a clinic. You might have to wait for hours, and if you lie to get in, claiming bleeding, pain, whatever, the bed you take could keep someone having a true emergency waiting while you beg for a test for a non-emergency condition. At best you anger all those who are caring for you in the ER. At worst, someone dies because you are selfish.

Good luck with the clinic.

I would contact your family & see if, someone can help you.
Otherwise, I would try to get on medi-cal & see if, they can help you with your problem.
