THE WAY THINGS WORK vols I & II written in the 60's during the height of the Cold War when people were sure a nuclear war was coming and began building bomb shelters in their back yards. The book is actually an encyclopedia of facts on how to rebuild civilization after a nuclear war and you survive. It tells you how to make soap, make vinegar, tan hides, make clothes, make a fire, build a simple lathe or a water wheel to generate electricity. All sorts of useful information. The book has been re-written into a single volume and updated to reflect this new era, but for my money the original two-volume set is the best. And if everything in the world keeps going the way it is, I think this book will be coming back into vogue before very long.

Right now, The Road by Cormac Mc Carthy. Today it won the highest honor in Scotland. It already won the Pulitzer this year. It is a truly amazing story of love and compassion in a post-apocalyptic world. It will literally take your breath away and you will be thinking about it weeks later. It is a genuine classic and will be for a very long time to come. Pax - C

The Hobbitt and the Lord of the Rings. Written over 60 years ago this tale is still fresh in its thinking. Yound and old alike can find amusement in the characters and find strength in its quest. I've read the books three times so far and probably will another three before I die.

Well, actually I wouldn't suggest that everyone read a certain book (sounds kinda pushy). But you might like Dangerous Visions, edited by Harlan Ellison--I know I did.

"Illusions, The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah" by Richard Bach. It details how humanism and belief in deity can learn from each other. It is a light story, full of laughs but it stills gives the reader something to think about. It is a good read.

The diary of Anne Frank.

It is historical, it is profound and it gives an insight into the innocence and the attrocities mankind is capable of, and the more people that understand those 2 facts the better a chance we have at preventing anything like what happened to Anne Frank from happening to anyone else ever again.

There are so many good books. It depends if you want fiction or nonfiction.

If you are business oriented, I highly recommend "The Original and Evolution of New Business" by Bhide.

For fiction, try this out:

My Name is Red
by Orhan Pamuk, a very famous Turkish author.

Came highly recommended from someone I trust.
