Here's the thing. The whole best rapper alive thing is stupid. When people say best rapper alive, they mean best rapper currently rapping. Alive or dead, Rakim is the GOAT. But currently, no, because he hasn't released material lately. Though I think that will change soon. Change best rapper alive to best current rapper (even then I'm not 100% that Wayne is the best current rapper), and it makes more sense.

Rakim is one of the best lyricist alive as far as rapping there is no best rapper. Rappers come and go and in order to be the best you have to continuously sell records, which Rakim hasn't.
You could make an argument that Ice Cube is the best because he has sold more albums in a group as well as a solo artist than Rakim.

No, 2pac is the best rapper alive. That's right, I said 2pac. He is alive and well in Brazil, hangin' out with Biggie, Bruce Lee, and Hitler. Elvis however, is very dead.
