80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

The meaning of life is that life ends

Life is like a letter...

it has an origin and a destination
it could get lost sometimes
someone has written it and another will read it
an opening and an ending
the day it started is noted and remembered
the day it reached the destination is also noted and remembered
time is always involved, sometimes you have plenty, sometimes not enough
it should follow a definite pattern
it must be clear to be understood

it should serve the purpose of the one who has written it...

IMO, its to LIVE in it, and to feel like you have established something positive out of your "stay". Even though I am only 13, my insights arent too far off those of someone with more life experience. If you are familiar with a phrase "live for hte journey, not the destination", it bassically sums it all up. People think we live to show our ultimate that we are adequate enough for higher "ground: if I may say, i.e. Heaven. But I believe that we are put here for a reason--to fulfill our lifes purpose. Alhtough it may not bring true happiness or what not, I do think that it is ultimately to help other people understand themselves as well and to be active in/and to esablish a better community.

It seems to me that at least a trivial aspect of the-meaning
of-life is this;take a group of trained cooks;put them all to
work in a large kitchen; then find out,if in reality, too many
cooks spoil the broth.
Possibly you and the hordes before you asking this question,
have had too much darwin-ian training;or just too much
Darwin-ian schooling,if you are a young(chef-to-be).

For you could have looked-up the archives;any archives, and
based ur question on a reasonable criticism of it.
And we may have loved your new work(or opposed it).
Guess we'll never know(probably like the original question!).

There is no meaning. The atmospheric conditions were such that, what we perceive as, life happened. Then evolution brought us to this point. So I'm answering questions on Yahoo! Answers. What will I be doing this time next year?

We now have to assign meaning to the lives we've been brought forth to experience by no request of our own.

Meaning of life answers the question of why we exist. It is a "why" question and "why" questions have no meaning unless there is an intelligence behind it. So your question presumes a Creator/God.

No one can invent for themselves true meaning because no one brought themselves into existence. So that one answer (and all those similar to it): "Life's meaning is really whatever you choose for it to be" , is utter nonsense. All they're telling you is some tips on seeking good feelings for yourself, not real meaning. For real meaning, we have to presume that God exists and then seek Him.

Take time to think about that for yourself instead of asking other people. Life's meaning is really whatever you choose for it to be.

What is the true meaning of life? Why are we here? Why do we exist? Why do we have to live in this world of chaos,
Last week I asked a friend if he wanted to go ice skating. He said he had to watch out for somebody who was talking trash about him. He said that if he saw that person, he would shoot him. I asked him why he would want to kill somebody he doesn't even know. He said he didn't know and didn't care. I told him that person wants to live too ... Let's call him "D" and the guy he wants to shoot, "X." I told D that if he shoots X, he'd be arrested. He said he didn't care; he had nothing to live for. If he had nothing to live for, then why is he here? After talking for a while, he listened and decided not to shoot X after all.

Everybody deserves to live. If not, why are we here? We are here to do something, to be somebody. We are not here to kill. I think we were put on this planet to do good. I think we are being tested by something or someone.

I know some of you out there are in gangs. Why? They are using you. They only want you to hate! Please, you have more things to live for than killing people you don't even know. You only want to kill because you were told to! I've been there and done that too. I do not want to see that happen to other people. I just don't think it's right for people to kill other people for stupid reasons. I cry for y'all ...

Every day, all I hear is some Bloods going to kill some Crips or some TRGs going to kill some Scorpions. Why? Just because they look cool? Just because you want protection? Protection from what? You don't need protection if you don't join gangs, okay? You buy a gun from the streets for $200 for protection. I'm not in a gang or anything. I don't have a gun or gloch. I don't need protection when I walk through so-called gang territory. Nobody ever bothers me. Why? Because I don't represent anything. Because I'm not in a gang. If I was then something would happen to me.

You have other things to do than kill people. If we keep killing each other, what will happen to us? Will there be any more of us?

Please, people, I'm begging you to stop and think about what I've said. It's not worth it to kill. It is worth it to help people. It'll make you feel good about yourself. Trust me, I've done that. It makes you feel good when people say "Thanks," "You're so sweet," "I love you" and "You're so nice." Try it and I think you'll agree. You were not placed in this world to kill. Enjoy your life while you still have it. Don't destroy it - live it!
