I'm not sure what your budget runs but I would also suggest a Yamaha Vstar. They are comfortable models and very dependable. I bought one this past year and have loved every second of it. But out of the 2, you presented. I would go with the Harley! More dependable better on the re sell value if that ever becomes necessary. You also make an accent for yourself by doign your thing and riding what your passionate about. Be yourself and go for the Harley!

Don't allow others to make your bike choice for you.
I have both. HD and a Suzuki Hayabusa, the best of both worlds.
The Harleys are just as must fun as a sport bike, just remember that Harley's are way more enjoyable on a long ride.
My suggestion is....If you are going to get a Harley. Choose something in the Heritage style, they are very easy to ride, with a lower center of gravity. I have a softail Standard, which feels heavier than the larger bike, due to the center of gravity being higher.
There are many types of sport bikes, all are good, just decide which one is right for you.
Check out Kevin Schwartz's Racing school if you choose a sport bike, great training from a world Champion rider.

I never thought I'd say it but that is a nice looking harley! What kind of riding do your friends do? You might have a difficult time keeping up with them in the turns because even that harley doesn't look like it can lean over that far.... then again I'm not sure what the performance specs of that bike are at all.
You are very likely to drop and/or crash your bike in the first few months of riding so don't buy an expensive bike as your first bike unless you can handle the idea of it being scratched up and possibly wrecked in the not too distant future

Some Guy, I assume from the way your question is worded ya haven't ridden a motorcycle? What you need to do is take a Motorcycle Safety Foundation endorsed rider's class. They will teach you everything ya need to know about how to ride safely and defensivly. A lot of vocational schools offer this course as well as some bike dealerships an privately owned rider's courses. I recommend the privately owned ones as they offer more 1 on 1 instruction. After completing this beginners course you can easily figure out what bike to buy. An advantage to taking the schooling is they supply the motorcycles so if ya drop it or go down it is their bike that gets scraped up and not yours. And the speed is slower, taught in a parking lot like setting and after completion ya get a waiver on the state rider's exam( very hard to pass cause if your foot touches the ground twice or ya go outside the lines ya flunk. You need to get your MC temps(written exam) and be able to drive a stick to take the course. Like I said ,privately owned schools are best, they cost more but it is worth it. This way you can figure out what type bike ya can handle. GOOD LUCK and hope to see ya on the highway sometime!!!!I took a course last Oct and loved it!! p.s. besides "lookin' cool nothing isgoes with ridin' cool and what doesn't look cool is you and the bike on the ground, Comprenda,Amigo?

Your friends aren't gonna pay the payments are they?
Then buy the Harley, it's what you want that matters.
Besides, a V-rod will give you the best of both worlds
Frank N is dead wrong----harley hasn't had real quality problems in years
(you will have to put up with a lot of jealousy if you buy the Harley)

No it is not weird for a 20 year old to ride a harley. I think if I was to get a bike it would be a Harley. They are a nice bike and all of my friends and co workers have one. It is the only bike that I would get.

for a 20 year old- either of them. if it were me, i would go for the harley. in the end, it's something u have to decide and try not to let your friends discourage u on that. if u bought the harley, u could have the best of both worlds and have the chance to try them both out. if,in the end, u decide to go with the ducati sell the harley.
it's a win win situation for you.

I think that at 20 years old and the fact that your even asking this question forces a reply. First off you MUST let your friends pick put your bike for you because you are obviously not capable of doing this yourself. Secondly your friends MUST pick out your riding apparel for you as again you are obviously not capable of thinking for yourself. Lastly DO NOT get any form of rider training. The less time your on the rode with real riders is probably safer for the rest of us zombies. P.S. a Suzuki Bergman would be perfect for you.

you cant ride a cruiser with sprts bikes, they go heaps quicker than the harley would and looks would be a bit of an issue, get what you want and ride when you want, i prefer both types but can only ride a harly with other harleys and a sprts with other sports.

i'd take the activity probability in Denver. Sacramento became into truthfully ranked between the main depressing cities to stay in with the aid of Forbes. the cost of living interior the good areas of California is truthfully costly and that they good paying jobs are depleting that's why many californians are shifting all around the rustic. Denver has a honest crime cost, lots below Sacramento and the cost of living in Denver is a lot decrease.
