i had a old pci card and its wep, but the router i am going to try to connect too is wpa .. will i be able too and will it work..

If you want to connect via WEP, you'll have to configure your router for WEP instead of WPA. All machines connecting to your network will have to use WEP as well.

While the router supports multiple methods of encryption, only one may be used... So you'll have to downgrade to whatever the card supports. I'd recommend replacing the card but as a temporary solution, you could do it...

It really depends on the card, and the utility that comes with the card. I know of some older cards that support WPA, if you get the latest drivers / utility application for the card. I would recommend checking out the manufactures web site, and do a search for the model of the WNIC that you have.

if your wireless router security is set to using WPA. then the old pci card will not work with the router.
