Well, I did, and it wasn't for the Republicans. The problem in 1972, however, was that George McGovern was a remarkably weak candidate, comparable to John Kerry or Michael Dukakis. All the more reason for the Democratic Party to get rid of its primary system.
It's important to remember that by the 1972 election the Watergate scandal, which was created by Nixon's re-election people, didn't really become a scandal until after the election.

I did vote in 68 and 72 against Nixon. He was using the war to get reelected in 1972 by telling us peace was at hand. The only thing in his hand was his sweat. Watergate became a big deal when Nixon tried to bury it with payoffs, Like a Teamster union official. His vice president had to resign over some shady money deal and then he had to resign or be impeached. A figged up time for America. Bush is to stupid to be a president as he can't admit even to himself the He and his adviser's messed up about everything his administration tried to do, so it's like Nixon #2 but with more money.

Well I did and I also know that from the time the tape recorders were used both parties have engaged in spying on the competition. It is common knowledge that Kennedy, The super hero of the democrats, used inside information to beat Nixon for the office. Truman used his power to eliminate Patton and MacArthur but forgot About Eisenhower. By that time the country needed a republican to end the Korean war just as they needed Nixon to end the Viet Nam mess. WWII was Roosevelt's answer to economic problems in this country and the loss of lives at Pearl Harbor were an entry fee which He did not worry about. There was plenty of time to prevent that mess but as usual a democrat did not know how to defend this country.

Watergate seemed inconceivably stupid at the time. The fact that the republicans sank so low and then compounded the felony by lying about it and making up "Law" as they went, as in "When the president does it, its not against the law."
Watergate is now the second most insanely criminal act of any president. Guess who gets top prize?
That was then, now is now. Bush and company makes the Nixon crowd look like boy scouts.

Not petty
The Watergate affair was corruption at the highest levels in government. It came to light that neither Nixon or many senators and congressmen obtained their offices legitimately.
An era in the US when democracy gave way to criminal manipulation of the system. Dirty Tricks ruled the day.
Senators were voting for bills to keep pictures of their sexual escapades out of the press and graft and corruption flourished.
The theft was of the innocence of a nation.
He didn't allow a cover up. The tapes revealed he was aware of all and approved all. His nick name Tricky Disk was for his Dirty Trick operations in earlier electrons.
King Richard was destroying the electoral process and making a mockery of Democracy.
Richard Nixon then Lie Under oath about criminal acts he has first hand knowledge of.
If he was not president he would have gone to prison for greater than 10 years for that.
The Guys were not republican as you know it. They were out to win at all costs and the considered themselves to be above the law.
When the prosecutors investigated them, they threatened and fired the prosecutors.

It was highly exaggerated as a crime compared to the low standards of other presidents. (Not talking about Bush) All he did was allow a cover up.

let me remind you the election had already took place before the scandal was out in the open, so people would have felt nothing about it
