I heard that today, at 12:30 am Mars will be as big as the moon to the naked eye and that it will never appear that big until 200 years from now. Is this true, or it it a fake??? Or is it the solar eclipse and people just got confused???

That is a hoax that was sent via email like 5 years ago...seems as though it is still popular these days. So, the answer is: NO. Anyways, it is physically impossible. That would mean that Mars would be incredibly close to Earth. If it did appear that big, don't you think that a super hyped space mission would have been planned? Don't be let down...just pass the email off to someone next year...and entertain yourself by watching the person look for the event (or listen to them talk about the event days in advance to their colleagues...who may also be gullible stargazers).

the respond is in no way, ever, ever, in any respect, in any respect. the main important Mars can ever get is barely 25 arc seconds or so(that's extremely, very small) in diameter, and approximately this length in basic terms as quickly as each and every 15 years or so. that's by way of fact this is at approximately fifty 5 million miles out of your domicile whilst at its closest this year, so it is going to constantly look tiny with none good telescopic help a minimum of 8 inches in aperture. It does come nearer to Earth on usual each and every 2+ years or so at opposition, however the dimensions of the Moon!? it extremely is the cosmic mom of all hoaxes. this is at opposition this year on twenty fourth December yet its maximum width is barely sixteen arc seconds, that's tiny. possibly some one has puzzled the Moon with Mars as there's a finished eclipse of the Moon seen in the time of N usa and the Pacific/Asia on twenty eighth August (at finished moon a while) whilst the Moon will turn a coppery-purple shade for some hours(in basic terms like Mars's tint), yet that doesnt look something like a bare-eye Mars. additionally this is unconnected to the purple planet (as Mars is as a rule stated as), that's constantly unmistakable with the aid of its very small length, even nonetheless this is vibrant at opposition. in case you get a wager, attempt to view the completed eclipse of the Moon nonetheless, as this may well be a genuine astronomical adventure and extra advantageous than staring at Mars with the bare-eye (you will desire a enormous telescope to be certain any information, except you have one). So i'm afraid you have been had with the aid of this 'astro-hoax', (the way it arose circa 2003 is yet another tale) which in basic terms won't circulate away, and has no foundation in actuality. it sort of feels to be cropping up oftentimes those days, so tell your human beings that's the Moon which would be ... the dimensions of the Moon!, yet would be such as the colour of Mars for some hours on twenty eighth of this month. (examine the cyber web for information of the tine at your region) Have a astounding view. (of the Moon it extremely is)

not true at all. in order for mars to appear as large as the moon in the sky, it would have to be substantially closer to the earth than it is. at best mars will appear as a star in the sky. as for the time frame, balderdash. it happened a few years ago, and it happens on a regular cycle.

That is an old hoax that has been circulating around the web. It fooled my teacher last year. She had us all go outside to look at it for an assignment.
