So I was putting gas at a gas station close to my house. After I put gas, I exited the gas station to a light. There was a guy about 500 meters away driving like a Formula 1 racer. Seems like I screw this fellow's plan to cross the light, because I stopped at the yellow. After we waited a long time, and the green finaly changed, I took off. The guy was tailgating me. So, I slowed down, and put my blinker on to turn into my house complex. He followed me. When I saw this, I stopped, and got my gun in the glove compartment. I got out of my car using the car as a barricade. I never aimed I him, I just made the gun visible. When he saw this, he took off. Did I threaten him? Was it self defense?

Personally, I agree with your reaction. But legally you can't draw your gun unless you feel your life or someone else's life is in danger or to prevent a forcible felony (depending whether or not your state has a stand your ground law or a duty to retreat law). So if you felt like this guy was going to cause you harm then you were fine in drawing your pistol, but if you drew the weapon to intimidate (and you didn't feel threatened) then technically that is brandishing and would put you in the wrong (legally speaking).

In my opinion, someone tailgating you and then following you to your house is sufficient cause to feel threatened and therefore you (or anyone else) has the legal right (duty!) to defend yourself.

From my experience, if you want a really practical (as in you can actually use it when you're on the street) system of self-defense, you should look up KRAV MAGA. All of the other martial arts are mainly for show (like really showy, cool-looking, and performance geared) or are philosophical (like Aikido, it focuses more on mental strength etc). For example, I've done Taikwondo ever since I was a kid until high school (I'm in college now), and I still can't even defend myself that well on the street. All I remember from TKD training is focusing on forms and breaking boards and stuff. Things that look good when you're performing in front of a crowd, but not very practical on the street. I've also done 2 years of Aikido. I actually really like the philosophy behind it. It's also pretty much an all-out defense art. But, again, it's not that practical when you're on the street. I don't have anything against the other arts. I think they're great for building confidence and developing a philosophy. It's just that when you're on the street, people don't play by the rules. The attacker isn't always going to use roundhouse kicks and straight punches. That's why I recommend KRAV MAGA, which teaches you how to deal with street situations where people play dirty: knee, knives, guns, uppercut, jab, etc. Check it out on wikipedia or youtube and learn a little bit about it to see if it suits you.

Cruiser, no one is safer without a gun, more crime is prevented by law abiding citizens with guns, than the police can prevent. Case in point is the carry license in Florida, within six months of ennacting the the law, sexual assault against women dropped by 90%. The reason? Rapists could no longer be sure that the woman they were going to rape was unable to defend herself.......sorry got off topic
Now to the answer, depends on the concealed carry laws in your state. As long as you have a license, and you felt you were in danger, shouldn't be an issue. And I too am glad that you were assertive, if more people were assertive protecting themselves, crime wouldn't be an issue.

In the situation, you did the right thing.

as so many idiots would wish you weren't.

Are you unstable or something? Why would you carry a gun? Guns find guns. You are safer without one>
