Can anyone suggest how to carefully wash an expensive bag? I want to try it myself but dont know how to start.. do I need to soak bag in water and what liquid soap I will use? and can I dry in a machine dryer?

No - do not wash a hand bag in water by hand or in a machine.
If the bag is extremely dirty, take it to a dry cleaner w/ experience.
If it just needs to be cleaned a bit, then empty it. Vacuum out the lint, etc. & spot clean. For details: http://www.ehow.com/how_155955_clean-purse.html
Be sure to test an inconspicuous area before spot cleaning the rest of the bag.

You will ruin your bag. Trust me on this. IF you want your bag cleaned, take it either to Gucci or a professional dry cleaner that is experienced cleaning fabric handbags.

I have gucci belt lovley i put in the wash not lovely. just wipe it down

ummm i think that you can just wash it with some color safe liquid washer if you wash it carefully. I've heard that lots of people do that but I've never tried it.
