Listen to my question I posted: These downloads dont work for my sims 2 game. And now listen to his answer: Go out and buy the game. Dont download because it is illegal and you just got caught.I know your yahoo name. You will receive a letter for a court date soon. See you in court. Meaning he thought I illegally downloaded the game wich I did not. Also I am 13 so he is harming a minor please help me and clear this up! Can he figure out my info from my username? Do you really think I will recieve a letter in my mailbox for a court scentence? Can I just throw it away because I am a minor? I mean do you think he will find where I live ever? He probably lives in a random state and never find were I am.

A company representative can acquire your account information from your ISP without a warrant. They can then file a civil lawsuit against the owner of the account. If the judge rules in their favor, he would issue a monetary judgment and fine the account owner. As a minor your legal guardian is legally responsible for your accounts and would be held accountable.

But there is no automatic penalty. Due process requires that you and your guardian have the opportunity to face your accuser in court. If you really did not break the law, you should have no problems proving it.

There was a recent case where Warner Bros sued a family because they found a "Harry Potter" file shared via Bit Torrent. They assumed it was a copy of their movie and sued. However, they were humiliated when it was proved that it was only a book report for school.

I am no lawyer and this is not legal advise. Don't download stuff illegally. If you are caught, the companies sued for thousands of dollars. They can't catch everyone but they can really penalize those they do catch.

Don't worry about it. Tracking you would be difficult, and impossible for the authorities to do without a warrant. They aren't going to get one for a possible copyright violation. If you posted something about getting ready to do something serious like murder, arson, or about how you had some kid locked up in your house, they might convince a judge that it was serious enough to justify the risk that you were just kidding.

He probably read a book with a cop in it once, and thinks he's an expert on law.

More than likely, he's just someone trying to throw his weight around. By that I mean he's being a bully - some may even call him a snitch.

No, don't worry about it. Unless you have carelessly posted personal information about yourself anywhere online, which you know is a really stupid thing to do, you should have nothing to worry about.

Also, more than anything else I've said or anyone else says, TELL YOUR PARENTS what's going on. They love you and will protect you however you need protecting.

You ought to go ahead and report this/him to Yahoo though as being harrassed just to be on the safe side.

Heh, don't worry. You're fine. He believes that you downloaded the full Sims 2 game, and is just saying all of that to scare you into not illegally downloading games. Probably because it makes him feel good.

Even if you did download the full game illegally - Yahoo answers certainly would not be a place for you to be caught at. [If you got caught at all]

No they can't take any legal action against you. It was a scare tactic to discourage any illegal activities. The company that owns the copyrights are the ones who would have to take action, against the site that allows downloads, etc. Similar to the file sharing of songs that went on with Kazaa for copyright infringements, loss of income.

Unless said user just happens to be a judge.. then no.

But yes, it would be possible to track you down by your user name if a court ordered it.

But I wouldn't worry about it, people made idle threats like that all the time.

I doubt you will ever get any type of paperwork and if you do just show it to you mom and dad and their attorney should straighten it out but I think he's just razzing you.
