Democracies do work in South America. Many countries now have freely elected officials, which were elected by popular election unlike an "electoral college" like as the US.
Bolivia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Peru, Venezuela are just a few countries where dictators have been tossed out the door. New constitutions have been written to give less power to the military. Most of these countries have far from perfect political systems, corruption is common, but after decades of military rule that is to be expected, "growing pains" and all that.
Most Latin American countries enjoyed harsh military rule courtesy of US "democracy" which didn't think it was such a good idea for South American countries to enjoy democracy since that would inhibit the US' ability to rape aforementioned countries of their natural resources.
Salvador Allende was a Chilean doctor and Marxist senator. When he was elected President in 1970 the US did everything in it's power to a) prevent his election and b) eliminate him once he was elected. The CIA, AT&T and other corporations financed Allende's opposition party and once he was elected the US saw that he was removed from power by any means possible. In his case this was Augusto Pinochet, a Chilean General of the Army (and psychopath) who murdered Allende and for decades terrorized the population, "disappeared" and tortured many individuals.
Why? Well because US corporations "owned" mineral rights in Chile, the workers that extracted these minerals were ruthlessly exploited and not even given a fair living wage, not even by Chilean standards.
For decades it was pretty much standard operating procedure to eliminate any South American leader who didn't fall in line with the US or opposed US policy. They were promptly labeled "communist" and ousted by their own military.
The latest example is Venezuela. US oil companies that extracted oil from the soil gave back only 16% of it's value back to Venezuela. This was achieved through very convenient contracts signed by previous corrupt leaders who took bribes in the millions to allow the US this privilege,
And when someone like Chavez pops up who demands a fair price for his country's natural resources the US finances his opposition to stage massive "protests" and funnels large amounts of money to foreign (US) owned media to publish inflammatory news about Chavez.
I don't entirely agree with Chavez's politics, but the guy has a point. so do many other South American leaders. And let's remember that just because you disagree with someone's ideology does not automatically mean that they are a dictator. Hugo Chavez (Venezuela), Evo Morales (socialist, Bolivia), Michelle Bachelet (socialist, Chile), and others across South America were freely elected. Hence a democracy, from the Greek; demos (people), kratos (rule). The people rule.

Demoracy works in Latin America, but the some leaders lik Chavez destory democracy, and consensous building for more extermine solution to lingering socail problems. Lula, Balcherett, Calederon are starting to make democracy more permananet presence by trying to bring as many factions on board to pass cruical leglisation. Politcal reforms make economic reforms slower, but building democratic insitutions will always provide a more accountable goverment in the end,.
Its not about left or right in poltical thinking anyone, its about freedom or trnanny.

A democracy is the way the west spreads its empire. It is how they gain control of the nations that fall under its power. Staged elections, bankrupt the economy, keep the people stupid, and take all their money.

Democracy?
Do you mean like the one we used to have, or some other type?
Please explain what you mean. In the US, we used to have a knowledgeable populace that could think, vote, and make rational decisions on their own behalf.
Now, we have people who ask vapid questions about other countries without keeping things in order in our own.
Go figure.

I have not obvious the movie however have learn so much of the makers writing (John Pilger). The US has hostile democracy in South America considering that puppet governments enable US businesses to milk South American labour and puppet governments enable the US to milk the alternate dating with South America. The CIA have already admitted involvement in making an attempt to overthrow Chavez, who's as you rightly say a democratically elected chief!!! The US executive are at pains to demonise him and painting him as a few kind of Stalin determine whilst he used to be infact elected with bigger majorities than any President would ever desire to get. The purpose is that Chavez like a couple of different leaders have realised that prior dictatorships have exploited the humans and stored them deficient. Rather than carrying on with this fashion Chavez needs to make use of venezuelan wealth to upgrade the lives of the deficient (the numerous) and no longer with no trouble the lives of the wealthy (the wealthy). This is utterly in opposition to US doctrine which promotes capitalism and does not wish to support the deficient and needy. Chavez is a socialist however no longer like Marx or another socialist. Chavez needs the humans to support theselves however he'll aid them in doing so. An exciting statistic is that there's now one hundred% literacy in Venezuela way to literacy systems announced via Chavez. Everyone now has a shot at elementary schooling. Chavez needs to make use of the nation's gigantic oil wealth to upgrade the nation as a complete instead than with no trouble lining the wallet of the nation's most sensible oil pros (US variety). The majority of US residents with no trouble cannot withstand the truth their governments have supported a couple of brutal dictators in more than a few South Ameruican international locations that experience ended in the deaths of hundreds. The US most effective aid democracy on their phrases (accordingly they do not aid Chavez who used to be democratically elected). The US additionally worry the vigor of South America. South America is a drowsing enormous. If it have been to unite within the identical method as Europe has then they could be a essential vigor within the area. As we all know, the US needs to be most effective massive child at the block and would possibly not stand via idly as the brand new child stakes his declare. Even now Bush helps the Colombian executive which utilises deaths squads.
