This has puzzled me for a long time. The intro to "The Rifleman" is well-known, however years ago I saw episodes with an different intro, one where Chuck Conners, instead of firing his rifle while walking down the street, jumps into the street from the darkness and fires.
The Western Channel has recently shown repeats, and I've watched EVERY EPISODE twice -- not one had this alternative opening.
Help -- does anyone know the origin of this alternative opening? Are there missing episodes I haven't seen, or was this mystery intro somehow created after the show's last episode and tacked on.
Please reassure me I'm not seeing things!

They probably edited the opening you are looking for out and replaced it with the better known one, which is the only opening I remember seeing.

I don't remember the theme myself. I just remember Chuck Connors firing that rifle going down the street.
