I have had a no call no show before in the past, but I'm not sure how many mangers know about it. I had a verbal warning, but I didn't sign anything and don't think I was written up for it. Can I say I'm an alcoholic (and sign up for AA) and for that, they can't fire me??

you can still be fired for this. The case of exception would be an emergency. you boss might be sympathedic but don't count on it. They rely on you to fill a shift and it puts a burden on everyone if you don't show up.

Yes, they can fire you. No, claiming substance abuse won't save you.. nor will making any claims AFTER the fact.
