Social security numbers are issued at birth. I don't see this technological advance as being very far off. My pets are "chipped" so they can be scanned by a vet if they are ever lost and I can be contacted.

Every time I hear about a kidnapped child or one lost in the wilderness, I think it's a good idea. I really wish that little girl, Madelaine, who was abducted in Portugal had a chip under her skin - maybe she would be home by now.

I do have mixed feelings - I'm not sure we will be able to control how the chips are used. If they could be removed at your request once you are 18 - then, maybe, it would be OK. No matter what, it should ALWAYS remain a choice and not mandatory - ALWAYS. Only a child's parents should be able to request it - the hospital should never be allowed to do it to every child born.

But, this is a preliminary opinion. I think I need to think about it some more.

Thanks for the though provoking questions. Here's your star.

i watch science show and read about new and future technology. being a sci-fi fan all my life, i recall reading about incredible things that, in my youth, i could hope would be possible, yet here they are.

i recall ready an article about Ben Franklin creating the bifocal glasses and how many people took exception to them as circumventing God's will. same with the Wright Bros...'if god had wanted men to fly...he would have given them wings.

now chips are being experimented with that help the blind see. ocular implants are common now but still subject to controversy.

so many children go missing and/or are murdered each year, if a chip could locate and find just one child, it would be worth it.

i know that many will use biblical references to negate this but it should not be dismissed solely on the grounds of 'big brother' conspiracy theorists.

let's face it...with the rapid advancing nanotechnology soon we will have capability that will allow us to vastly improve most every aspect of our lives.

we are the borg and resistance is futile. maybe we shouldn't resist. IMO

I think my computer is to big to be put in a baby.
I think it is a religious zealot's over imagination.
They do put tags in the ears of horses for identification and to find them if they are lost and are putting them into cows ears rather than a brand. Run a scanner over the ear and know who owns the cow or horse.
Babies?

I can understand why some parents think it is a great idea just in case something terrible like their child being kid napped where to even happen because then you would be able to locate your child and bring him or her home safely. But, my feeling towards it is that is satanic to do something like that.

Probably so, and most parents will "ooo" and "ah" and think it's wonderful. It's really scary to think of what the future holds in these areas and people just shrug and say why not, put a processor in my infant.

Will this mean even more idiotic generation then?
If so, I strongly disagree with the whole procedure.

If you are talking computer chips to locate lost children, then I think that it is a great idea.
