There were two books the library said was water damaged. I paid one of the book because some of the pages stuck together even though I didn't do it. The other book is just worn out which has a small water mark and some wrinkle. I said I don't want to pay for the book that's just worn out. The supervisor of circlation suggest to split the charge. I still think it's not fair.

You are responsible for the books you check out. If you leave them where I ruin them, YOU still owe the library, even if I owe you. You can't just ignore your responsibility for taking care of the books.

They check the books when they come in. The damage happened on YOUR watch.

You're lack of ethics is showing.

If you're not responsible for either, then you shouldn't have paid for the first book. By doing that, in a court it would look like an admission that you did it. But since this is just a library book and the fines aren't much, it would never get that far.

But like the above person said, if they were damaged while you had them checked out, then it's your fault.

Just put your foot down and say no. If you really have no options, split the cost.
